I agree about the 95Ron, using higher octane fuel is not the long term cure to the problem. Temporary quick-fix maybe, but its not fixing whatever the underlying problem is.

If the car is having problems, using higher RON fuel on a car tuned to run on 95RON will not magically fix whatever is at fault. It'll just mask it, the engine may well still det (or worse - inaudible det, making you think its ok) and suffer failure whilst running higher octane fuel. Because the fuel is not the cause of the problem, its something else.

Its like turning up the radio so you can't hear the pinking! Ok its not quite the same thing, but hopefully my point will be understood.

I noted the cambelt comment, I did have a Subaru tech do a cambelt replacement once who fitted the belt one tooth out on one (or more) of the cams. The result of which was a notable lumpy idle and lack of power (very laggy spool). Plus it did det a tad under load once the turbo did spool up. However it was very brief because I only drove the car a quarter of a mile before turning around to take it back to the garage (and thereafter done the cambelt changes myself ever since).
