Until the 4th directive is met, then it will, but this alone does not mean that the vehcile and driver arent insured. The MIBD is a tool rather than an absolute list of insured vehicles.

I can have (apparently) unlimited vehicles on my policy. If I buy them all today then theyll be insured, because my trade policy provides that cover. I do not have to carry my insurance certificate with me, although it would make things easier all around if I was stopped whi;st driving one the above vehicles. Where I state that I have a valid policy then the simple fact that the car isnt recorded on the MIBD isnt sufficient evidence to seize the vehicle.....

I (parents rather) spent £600 taking the Wakefield Police to court for 21 complaints (with a witness) and they weren't found guilty of 1, save time and effort, pay the money.

Going back to the OP, was the car seized with the driver present or had it been left on the public highway?
If the later then wouldn't trader insurance be invalid as the car isn't in the possession or at/in the garage of the trader?

Thank you all very much for all info.

I'm afraid it is one of those things BUT I have known the police pay the bill which unfortunately for the recovery guy amounts to a measley £60 for the same job!!!!
I know what you are saying, BUT, that was not my friends fault. He was insured, just like everyone else (other than it being Motor Trade policy) If they pulled you and for some reason it didn't show on the system and they had it recovered, you took your Cover note in next day, and they said, ok, thanks, that's all clear, £170 please!

Indeed it is, and that is why you should never take anything seriously, just take what you read, thank folk, and act on that and seek professional advise should you need to.

No, he was in Tesco's washing the car, late at night. He said he saw a police car in the car park, parked up. 10 minutes later he jumped in car and left the garage and then the blues came. Why they waited and did just come over I don't know! They must have genuinely though he was Road Wars candidate!

I am more than happy with the Police being caustious, it shows initiative , there was NO flagged insurance on that vehicle, my friend did NOT have his policy cover note with him and it was indeed at night (He was taking the car to the local Tesco garage to wash it as it was being advertised the following day). They had no reason to believe or not believe (as the innocent until proven guilty is an American term) he was insured, even though he owned the vehicle and told them he had a Motor Trade policy. But like 'billyray911' said, if the producers are a thing of the past are they going to be wasting more and more of their (our) money towing 50% legit and 50% not legit motors.

I suppose its in the best interest of a Motor Trade policy holder to carry his/her policy around with them 24/7, if this is how they are going to be treated my the police!

Thanks again all, I will submit a complaint to the address they gave his, and update you for your info.

In my experience, he will be better going to West Bar Green and asking to see a uniformed Inspector. Take all of the relevant documents and make the complaint. At the end make it clear in no uncertain terms that you will drop the formal complaint if the charge is waived.
