fpan.. dependent on location... used Aperture on ISO 100-400, F3.5-6.0, white balance +0.3, manual AI focus on centre point AF, no flash. Car travelling around 10-20mph roll. I found that by setting the shoot mode on continuous and shooting when car is approaching. The money shot is when the reaches just before mid-frame whilst panning the DLR and following the car.
What was the aperture speed? You can check this on the EXIF data of the picture (right click -> properties -> summary)
I'm guessing it's because you have taken that using flash. To get the best images you need a camera which allows you to manually control the exposure time.
The hard part is finding a location, you need somewhere well lit with preferably an interesting backdrop. You need space to position the car how you want it, and enough time to take several shots at different exposures and compositions………not easy.
Sometimes you just come across the ideal situation, I’m always on the lookout for possible locations.

Yeah the camera isn't too good. and i suppose any location is better than outside my house

My VR lens makes a good attempt at night shots without the tripod, but you need a reasonable amount of light.
This is hand held.
Whilst driving home.... I thought I'd pull over and take some (very) quick shots using the manual settings on my Fuji....
Then drove on and found quiet spot close to home. Just as I'd parked up an unmarked police crew decided to stop and turn me over. Satisfied with my explanation, they left. 5 minutes later, 2nd cop car....... then a police van.......
Needless to say I left kinda sharpish after explaining it a third time why I was taking pictures of the M4.... at night..... on my own.....

Yep, I've also found that you need to use the timer function or a remote to fire the shutter, otherwise you may still get some shake. Or at least I do with my cheapo tripod.
