hi i have harveys headers fitted to my car + other mods recomended by him with good results. 350bhp 335ftlb.
as others have comented you should have give harvey the chance to answer any questions before posting on here.
harvey will help anyone as best he can and if you were not happy with anything he supplys he would resolve any probs.

I use his ported and wrapped headers and up-pipe also.

I originally read about them in Scooby Magazine when Andy F was modding his WRX, if there good enough for Andy they will do for me

As for Harvey, the guy is a real gent and couldn't do enough to help / answer any questions I had (Even wrapped my Prodrive sports car for me whilst I read his Sunday paper ).

harvey is unwell at the moment, and I have been speaking to his partner. Her advise was to refer to the forum and get people opinons.

I asked that people be constructive and I have said nothing bad about the level of service I have received. In fact I would recommend Harvey to anyone, as the knowledge and advise he gave was very useful.

The problem I have was the cost of the item, and the quailty of the porting.

The porting I beleive Harvey sends out to get done by someone esle, so again he can not be held accountable for this.

I have decided to send the headers back.

I had a set on my old RA, paid nothing like £400 and they offered the benefits that Harvey described to me before I bought.

Harvey is sound guy. The up-pipe costs approx 140 quid, that's what I paid 2 years ago anyway. You then have several hours work cutting the lugs and heat shield off and porting the OE headers once they have been stripped down. And don't forget the new gaskets. You then have the cost of the DEi heatwrap, Harvey does not use the cheap stuff you get on ebay.

I ported my own so know what's involved. The porting look's nothing fancy but makes a big difference when done correct.

IMHO you are paying for knowledge, end of. Even if its the simplist thing you might not be best pleased but thats the way it is.

I remember reading a thread ages ago about ported headers. I think Harvey had a look at a set done by a well known company and they had done virtually nothing on the porting side and sold them as fully ported.

Like you say you are paying for the porting knowledge not just the labour involved.

I also bought from Harvey for his experience - like many people on here, I'm a satisfied customer.

If he's offering a return service - what more can you ask for ??. He won't be getting mine back though !

Firstly I would like to thank everyone for their support and kind comments, some from guys I have never met and some from fellow enthusiasts I have fitted headers for.
Dan, I had forgotten all about that but I was left chuckling when I read post 33.
If my ported headers and matched uppipe, which have been developed over a period of time, including a fair bit of flow bench testing, did not have a definate beneficial effect I wouldn't be doing them.
To clarify, I did suggest to Jiffa that he should identify the issues causing the very poor spool, looking for leaks and such like and get the best from his system before he fitted a set of ported OE headers.
What was supplied was a set of headers as he did not have any to exchange, fully ported, dressed, DEI heat wrapped, along with a slip jointed, purpose designed stainless steel uppipe, 5 new studs, DEI wrapped obviously plus delivery.
When the headers were returned Jiffa was immediately given a full refund and in seven years of doing headers this is the only time anything has been returned.

I am completely on your side Harvey, i have used a set of your headers and one of your stage 3 up pipes on my V4 Sti, Std every thing else apart from a 3" turbo back system, and it was awesome. It was good before, but pulled so much harder after it was night and day when driving the car, it did an easy indicated 160mph laden with 4 people which i was very happy with.
To question Harvey's headers before you have even tried them in tantamount to lunacy imo.
If you study them next to a std set, you will see that there is actually a lot of work put into them to get the to the right diamentions. These are cast headers don't forget and need to be treated as such, they can't be rushed when grinding or they will fracture.
The up pipe is made to exacting diamentions as well, it has not just been made to the biggest diameter possible but though out to what is actually needed to compliment the headers, with out being to big so as to lose gas velocity.
You are getting a quality product when you buy off Harvey and you are not being ripped off either, that is just not in his (very good) nature.

You should have tried them first. They are not miracle a cure though, it will not hide a problem if one already exists - late spool is usually caused by something other than headers as Harvey would have stated.
They do compliment Std cars very well, and will also suit moderatley tuned well set up cars as well imo.

You paid £400 for porting and heat wrapping when you can get gruppe-s / GT spec headers for £350 with an up-pipe and then buy heat-wrap and have some change...

Wrighty : I can supply you set of these GT Spec headers for £335 plus DEI wrap £50. Depending on the turbo you are using you will not get any more power and the spool and response will be poor in comparison to the ported OE.
I don't know who has the maximum. Others might like to comment but it is in the order of 450 bhp and I have a car here now at 422 bhp with ported headers, matched uppipe and TD05-06 20G.

Some wraps are applied wet but you'll always get smoke from the wrap for a day or so.
Why should the headers get wet, is there no undertray?
Heatwrap aerosol paint is available and protects the wrap where it might be exposed - now you will get plenty of smoke for a time, if you use that!

Generally email contact is best simply because I can deal with it in my own time but generally it is same day.

As regards wrap, a lot depends on what wrap you use. Although not cheap I only use DEI as over a period of time I have found this to be best. In the past I have used aerosol paint but will not use it again as I believe it leads to premature failure of the wrap which becomes brittle. I have half a dozen spray cans here if anyone wants to buy them.
Some wraps will absorb water more readily than others but there should not be any problem really even if you do produce a little bit of water vapour. By the way, the wrap must be applied DAMP not wet unless of course you want to wash out the binding chemicals in the wrap.

I had a set of ported and wrapped headers fitted by Harvey a few years back and when it was finished he told me to take it out and see what it's like, i gave it a bit of a thrashing and if i'm 100% honest i didn't really notice much difference , went back and told him which surprised him a bit but on the way home when driving along the motorway i did notice the increase in torque and the turbo seemed to spool earlier

Oh and yes you do get steam from the wrap especially the first time you drive it, got some funny looks the first time i stopped at a set of traffic lights and steam covered the front of the car

I cannot remember how long it is since you got your headers and up-pipe??? but the design has evolved over a period of time with flow bench testing to perfect what we have been doing. I expect that anyone with recent headers and up-pipe in the last 12-15 months will have even greater gains because of the developments that took place so we have evolved from MK1 and 2 ported headers and up-pipe to the MK3 item. Now I also run a range of up-pipes and select the best up-pipe for the particular application.
