Ah John is an amateur lol I do that for a living. That said I have had lots of advice from John and could not have done it without his advice

 

Where did you source your electrical components from? The wire, switches and connectors all look like good quality from the pics.

 

The sŵitches, relays, relay holders etc are all from polevolt, the circuit breakers are all brand new Klixon aircraft circuit breakers sourced from the states, the wire is mostly Raychem thin wall aircraft spec wire which John St sourced from various suppliers and some is high spec thin wall cable from polevolt. All the main power cables are from polevolt.

I wish that was the case would have saved me a fortune. When we had a hangar at Glasgow it was possible to get a lot of the bits but not now unfortunately. Even the circuit breakers are around £50 each from Demon Tweeks but can be sourced from the states for around £10 each plus postage.

 

Archie that reminds me to make sure that my car gets parked in Johns garage and not in a hanger at Glasgow not that that would matter

Arch- I have converted mine to a rally car- slower with the restrictor but events are so much longer- coming to uk on sat for a tarmac event at bovington which I think is 80 miles of competitive driving in the day!

 

Well its time for an update.
Lots going on and lots of progress. The engine has been with Alyn at As performance having some TLC.
The engine had been completely stripped and inspected. The block, cylinders and pistons were all perfect and needed nothing done. The crank had some marks so has been replaced as a precaution, it wasn't a heat treated crank so a brand new 2.5 heat treated crank has been fitted. The block has also been modded for a set of Alyn's 14mm head studs. The heads have been extensively ported and polished, the valve seats recut and bronze valve guides fitted. The valve train has been renewed with brand new supertech inlet and exhaust valves, double valve springs and titanium retainers. The cams have been replaced with a new set of Kelford R-199-c's. These required mods to the cam caps due to the increased inlet lift.

The engine is now back in the car and its now a case of starting to put everything back together





I have fitted an RCM rotated kit but that wasn't without its own issues. The power steering lines were right against the uppipe. I had to take the turbo back off and remove the lines and use a pipe bender to bend the pipework so that they were well clear of the uppipe. With the engine in this was a right pain in the hoop.

The wiring is almost complete.

The panel is now totally complete. I have taken all the various outputs and inputs and put them onto a series of plugs which are mounted to the tunnel. The whol;e panel can be quickly removed if needed.











The car side wiring is almost complete, with probably an hours work needed to see it done.



The engine loom needs two connectors terminated which will take minutes then its case of fitting the loom and then getting the engine running. There is still so much to do, the target of the first Scottish sprint on the 12th April is looking doubtful but will keep pushing to make it.

 

Good update Arch and from the sounds of it its almost there hopefully you will have it ready for April, which I could say the same for mine seeing this makes me very envious and sick for other people who are waiting on me and likewise me waiting on other people down here to finish bits off so I can move mine forward.

 

That control panel looks spot on would put some of the technicians we have at work to shame that.

Nice, tell ya what it's a hard skill set to find that. We've had a world of grief finding decent wireman.

Although I do see some cable ties in there though it looks like there's some lacing cord in there too so I guess I can let ya off.

 

Lol it's all cable tied I just didn't have the time to lace it, takes ages to do that neatly and keep the lacing level all the way along.
Time is always the enemy, as an example I fitted the headers, up pipe, turbo etc before fitting the engine then had to take it off again once the engine was in as the power steering lines were hitting the RCM up pipe, I had to remove the ps lines and use a pipe bender to reroute them away from the up pipe that alone lost me a day. Taking the ps lines on and off with the engine in is a right royal pain in the hoop. Never mind having each one on and off at least 10 times adjusting a little each time.

 

Cracking build this, loving the attention to detail.

That'll be some engine, look forward to seeing the results.

Well probably time for an update. Car is almost complete bar some of the nice to do items. Things have not gone smoothly with everything seeming to fight me. After the engine was in I noticed the power steering lines were closer to the uppipe than I liked so it was off with the turbo and a tweek to the lines by bending them slightly. Turbo back on which is a pain in the *** as that was the guts of a day lost. That seemed to be the pattern for almost everything else.

I also had to take the switch panel back out as somehow I had managed to cross the relays for RH fuel pump and the fans so when you selected the fans on the RH fuel pump ran and vice -versa - oops easy fix tho.

The wiring is complete and everything appears to be working as advertised. Just got the brake bias gauge to mount and headlights to fit.









Engine bay is also complete. I had to relocate the expansion tank so the hoses to that are not as I want them but once its running I will get the expansion tank modded to better suit the pipe runs.














Been pretty much at a standstill for a week as I need to get it running to check everything and then get the exhaust made, geometry done and an MOT and then mapped. Making the Kames sprint on the 17th May now looks almost impossible given the work commitments I have coming up.

 

Really liking this project chap, looking great.

Well lots going on so need to sit down and get a proper update done but car is now almost ready.

I have to say a huge thanks to Simon at Chevron and Lee at Owen developments for their help with the new turbo. This should blow away the performance of the previous one.
Given the success that Owen Developments/Chevron cars have had this year when the chance of this turbo came up it was a no brainer. thanks also to Graeme Jerame for his continued advice and support :thumbup:

Good god Arch I've never seen anything like that before that turbo is a work of art even just looking at it without knowing any specs at all.

Well that's an issue now you mention it. The paint used is not up to it as part of the cover is ruined when a small amount of fuel leaked from a fuel rail onto it.

 

So is this one still GT30 based Arch or 35?
What's the deal with the turbo, looks fancy anywho.
