Just found an old thread on the FF about a guys accident there. He was/is a very experienced instructor and was out very gusty and got it all seriously wrong.

After a stint in hospital he finally posted on the forum about what happened. Worth a read but more to the point, just look at the pictures onf the buggy!!

Frakkes post

Well here I am finally...
I have just typed a big reply to all and had it wiped by the library services (b’stards) so I’ll start again....

I would like to thank you ALL for the get well wishes.... I didn’t realise that I had made so many friends (or such a big impression ) in the last couple of years so thank you all..

I have got very sore everything on the left side so those of you who see me with only the left side padded will now hopefully understand why

Hospital checked me over and reported NUTS but otherwise OK....
Seriously though...
-I have whiplash to my neck sooo much it feckin’ hurts to look over my shoulder either way ATM.
-Left shoulder is sore to the point it feels like a broken collar bone at least (but they checked and it isn’t) so movement is restricted
-Left side back (upper torso) is sore from the impact with the ground as it the front pectoral “everything” so I think I actually managed to knee myself in the chest at some point... (this is the “pulled tit muscle” its the pectorial ligament or some such thing – “tit” is easier everyone knows what it is and it still hurts anyway)
-Left thigh has a bruise from the side rail impact and my left calf is bruised from the pointy bit of the siderail that sheared off the downtube and caught in my seatbelt webbing (otherwise Blader thinks I may have impaled the tube through my leg)
-Generally feeling like I have been run over several times by a very large truck... (probably the same one that ran over my buggy )

SO I’m on painkillers and anti inflammatory pills for a week (cocodomel and Ibruprofen – hospital grade )

What happened then... from the horses mouth no less

I was on the Biv 4.0m on the second knot up from low power – no idea what the wind was doing but it was gusty.... it had to be otherwise I would have been on a bigger kite ... I had been pulling Kiteloops on a left hand run (my better side) and rotations on the return right hand runs no bother good loops and some pretty good 180’s and 360’s

So I went for a rotation and got 180 then a gust hit felt the power surge ( I am assuming now that the kite canopy cleared the nearby trees to cause this) and looked down though OH **** but wasn’t too worried .... then after about 360 I saw the kite below me on my right side...(then thought OH **** **** ****) then nothing .... no memory from this point at all maybe I just blanked, feinted or played possum I have no idea but I suspect it saved my life....

So after this begins the autopsy....
I know I was high up after the boost... If I think it was 20 feet then assume 10 - 15 feet minimum – and that’s a looong way down
I know it was a rear impact
I know I did at least one 360
I am fairly sure there was a kiteloop in there too

So all in all I was in a flat spin high off the ground and totally FCUKed from there on in

I hit with the right rear wheel evident from the sheared left siderail and the well bent right one flipped backwards and or rotated whacked my head and back into the ground kneed myself in the chest..... then miraculously pulled all the safety AND WALKED AWAY..... and I don't want to do it again in a hurry thanks all the same....

My son was first over too me and we “apparently” had a conversation I cannot remember except he said “I’ll get your kite” (why would I remember that I wonder)
But he did say that all the safety was off kite and seatbelt so it was either me or the hand of god that pulled it all then we walked over the field to the rest of the group.. (I dont remember much of that walk either)

Soooo Thanks once again to all my well wishers and the guys in the park who gathered my stuff up for me

I have Frakke’d it this time well and good... Or should it be “ICARISED” as this was the "first" incident to go big on the forum ....what ever it still feckkin hurts

And Although I have joined an ”elite” group of people that have survived a near death experience in this sport I DO NOT reccommend it to anyone and I am not proud of it.... I’m happy to be still here and in one piece....

I will be back sooon

Fly safe

Frakke

And heres whats left of his buggy after a 20ft freefall!!
(if you know how strong these are you will be gobsmacked by these images)

I ask myself... Still wanna do buggy jumping?

Hell yeah

crikey...that must have come down with some force!!! sounds like the guy is lucky to have just the problems he suffered.

But as you said on another thread Frayz, without that risk, there wont be no adrenalin rush and therefore no buzz.

PS. glad i bought myself a cruiser not a jumper

Holy ****.

I think he was lucky to get away from that accident without more serious injury. That was a serious impact to do that much damage to a FF buggy!

Even last weekend that guy got badly winded and bent his buggy from a relatively minor accident. He was doing great and then out of the blue, the wind catches the kite just wrong and down he came. Can happen so quick.

Struggled today guys.

I had more OBEs today than ive had since ive been buggying. Probably got launched about 20 times today. Reason being, today i made the swap back to a freestyle axle and full face helmet in order to start working on my ground work.
Out of probably 50 attempts i absolutely nailed 2 full 360's and the rest were a nightmare. I was not completing the full rotation and was struggling to get the timing right between the steering redirection and ending up with the kite in the right place. All too often i was finding i was powered up when i didnt want to be and getting ripped backwards.

Got her up on 2 wheels a few times but got lauched out the top on one occasion lol. I think the gusty conditions didnt help and that my strop kept wanting to come out when i was powered up backwards. I think i'll deffo be going captive in order to cure that problem once and for all.

It was tough for me but its a steep learning curve.

Looking forward to saturdays practice.

Shrimpo got 31.4mph without even trying today, you gotta start going FAST if your gonna cruise Slim

Saying that, I must have got about 25mph just being dragged along the field on my feet, not as fun as the buggying though!!

Had a good laugh today, really need some gloves though, the Rage was really pulling me about and the handles dug in my hands, but really enjoyed it

Can't wait till Saturday
