GODDAMN CYCLIST!
Dunno why people are gettin on this guys bak. he came on here n blew off some steam. by the sounds of it the cyclists was a fudd it would have only taken him a second to allow the vehicle past. we could split hairs all day on this one. courtsey and manners cost nothing. i think turning ur choons up only served to make him more determined not to move even more though
I don't pay insurance yet, but will be now I am cycling reguarly.
The one thing guaranteed to wind me up on the spot is lack of consideration -I HATE it when people do not consider others with their actions.
If it was up to me I'd throw the ******** cyclists under the wheels of the cars / lorries driven by the similarly endowed motorists.
As there are many more drivers than cyclists on the road, but the percentage of idiots is the same (they're all 'human') there will be more incidents of drivers being inconsiderate than cyclists.
I've said it before and I'll keep saying it - just think how your actions affect others when thinking of doing anything.

Sounds like a dick to me, riding Primary is all very well but you dont hold cars up for miles, for no reason other than you can, it doesn tdo any good for the image of cyclists, we are I find, generally a pain in the **** to drivers, I do both and am considerate to cyclsts as I know what its like, when I am on my bike I let cars by as long as I feel safe, If I dont I ride primary for as short a duration as possible then then give a quick gesture that I hope says "I am moving over now, thanks for your patience"
I get wound up by stupid cyclists, no lights, no helmet, largely invisible, cutting red lights, riding three abreast on a Sunday, having a chat and drinking from their bottles, that is so f*cking annoying, lycra clad w4nkers. The really millitant cyclists annoy me as well, looking for evrey opportunity to play the Ronaldo diving trick or upset a car driver, ok if they are asking for it, do what you can but dont go looking for it.
I get annoyed by car drivers, on their phones, passing by when it isnt safe as that 10 second they safe is worth endangering someones life for isnt it ?
Its not an argument you can settle easily and it should be "us and them", we are all road users and we should try to make our journies without hurting or annoying anyone else, a little bit of empathy and consideration go a long way.

I pay insurance for my bike, mainly so I'm covered when I race.

I don't wear Lycra
I use my Jedi mind tricks on you lot to avoid Infractions, your initial post generated some debate so you will cop for some reaction, I think you are mostly justified, there is no excuse for wantonly holding people up for no reason, same if you are in a 1.0 car in the outside lane doing sixty, dont sit there, just get out of the fooking way.
Remember as well, that there are different reasons for people to cycle, some are "Cyclists" and some ride bikes, like there are Drivers and car operators, I don't class myself on my bike, lit up and bright yellow, on a decent bike, helmet, rear view mirror with the 4ft tall mad old dosser I see smoking a *** at kicking out time, weaving along bladdered, no lights on a bike several sizes to big.
Some cyclists do it for health, the simple joy of it, some do it for convenience, some cos they cant drive a car or cant afford a car, some are retarded drunken old dossers on a bike.
I think I am trying to say, though drivers can be bad there is at least some regulation in terms of a test, regular vehicle tests, a license etc, "cyclists" just have to get a bike, it doesn't need road tax and can be liberated from a skip and ridden with impunity pretty much anywhere.

I know its not you, this person is on a bike, but otherwise maybe its an easy mistake, I would hope you dont look like this bloke, as even for a commited and deprived Gayer I suspect his would be a step to far, its like a one man "Life of Grime" episode.

I'm a commuting cyclist and 42....
Something drivers fail to realise is that we CANNOT ride in the gutter. It's too dangerous, and invariably full of glass / **** / bricks / whatever.
We have to ride defensively and this does mean riding in the primary position, i.e. a couple of feet away from the kerb / verge.
If you couldn't get past the guy because of his postion I can only assume that there was oncoming traffic in which case it's likely that it was unsafe to pass him anyway.

I'm sure the cost of his replacement wing mirror will make him think twice about assuming cars have automatic right of way over bicycles. After all, when I threatened to call the police to sort it out, he soon backed down.
Almost happened to me again tonight, same stretch of road, another focus, but as he was motoring I opted for the gutter as I don't think I would have walked away from this one.
The bike does that, come on, I am giving you tough love type motivation, get out there,
Mate at work still hasnt got out on his brand new road bike, he has had it a few weeks, he is geting the same treatment, I am all smug cos I am now a proper cyclist with clippy shoes and an unhealthy interest in reflective garments.

Have you fallen off yet due forgetting about the clips when you came to a stop?
Nearly did the first day through forgetting, today I came up the path and they didnt want to come out, was just me being lazy.
We've all done it.
I came to a stop one time with my right foot OUT of the clips. No problem... then decided I needed to rest for a couple of mins and lent over to the kerb... left foot... LEFT foot! LEFT FOOT!!! ARGH!!!! clunk.
Then there was that fooking HUGE patch of nettles. I found the best way to get rid of the stinging sensation ALL the way down my left side was just to keep riding.
I couldn't work out why people kept staring until I got home and found that left arm, and left leg looked like I'd been shot with a scatter gun.

I can categorically state here and now that I will NEVER use clippy shoes. EVER. They have far too much potential for huge amounts of embarrassment
Spot on!
I'd personally prefer to see cyclists on the pavement. I'm gonna be criticized for that suggestion, but I much prefer dealing with them as a pedestrian than I do as a motorist (they're much easier to hear when you're on foot for starters). Also the consequences of a car hitting a cyclist tend to be worse than a cyclist hitting a pedestrian!

I have already broken a wheel(broken spokes and burst tyre) in the past 4 months due to being courteous to cars by going up on high pavements
I wouldn't ever sit in the middle of the road thats just asking for trouble.
I do not agree that cyclists should use the pavement. They should use the road and also they should observe the normal rules of the road for their own safety as well as others. I never had any objection to doing that on a bicycle.
It was quite unfair of the cyclist that the OP mentioned to ride on the road such that he could not be overtaken.
It just like any other occasion you might mention. People should have the good manners to think of others as well as themselves. All helps the world to go round!

Either Mr cyclist is actually a tw@ or he's had a bad experience of being runoff the road by a car into the gutter.
I'd like to think I'd be any better but I know myself too well. I can quite happily sit back and not get annoyed on the interweb but being held up whilst driving, particularly if I know that the other person knows they're holding me up turns me into a raging lunatic. To the point where it's safer for me to pull over, get out of the car and count to 10 rather than continue.
Highway code states "Slower moving vehicles should make use of pull-ins and passing places on narrow roads to allow faster traffic through". When I'm cycling, I do. 'Cos I feel safer if I run into the back of a car than I'd do if one ran in to me.

I held up a truck this morning, he could have gone past on the twisty section but its not really safe with that big trailer so he patiently waited until the road opened out and went past nice and wide. I gave him a quick wave. I could have stopped but as the road was opening anyway, there wasnt much point and its probably more dangerous for me and the other traffic for me to pull out and acelrate again on a section of bends.
As luck would have it he was delivering office furniture to our place, so I thanked him for his courteous and safe driving, cost me nothing, I know myself if someone thanked me like that I would be glad of the postivie feedback.
As for the pavement, I don't do it apart from one small section to avoid perhaps the most evil juntion in Cheshire, an offset crossroads across an A road, I just coast down the pavement for 40 feet and pull out further up.
I involve common sense and consideration for me and other road users in my judgement, if I am on the pavement, its at walking pace, fully aware I shouldnt be there and watching and ready to defer to pedestrians or get off, the common sense idea is that for all concerned, on balance its better for me to not go through that junction, its bad in a car, terrifying on a bike.
Sometimes breaking a rule or bending it slightly is more prudent than slavishly following it just because its there.
