Ah, so I MIGHT need to cut the standard socket off of the Apexi boost solenoid... and then splice on that other supplied one, so that it'll fit the plug on the car's boost solenoid harness?

no.....

match up the plugs for the apexi and splice engine harness side to apexi plugs

more than just doing it, i'd see if you can get hold of harness install instructions....

just to clarify you are talking about the spare plug with just a pigtail and 2 pins on it, if so that looks like it was made to just plug into the engine harness plug pin points, if so try that and add some sealant to hold in place

Question

I'm a bit confused.

As it stands in the OEM setup, there should be a loom from, ultimately, the ECU's harness that surely plugs into a socket on the OEM boost solenoid/MAP combo, yes? Surley it's just a case of unplugging this and plugging the loom's connector into the connector on the replacement Apexi's solenoid???

Wink

Ah I'm with yer! That extra cut-off socket DOES fit the Apexi's selonoid's little rectangular 2-pin plug!

So, as you said, I'd need to cut off the OEM loom's round connector and connect up this other connector instead? This other connector has red and brown(?) wires - but I take it, in this case, the red is +ve and brown is -ve? Do you know what colour the loom's wires are and which would connect to what, etc.?

loom wire are y/r + and b/w -
though not 100% which way it will wire, it should be red to yellow/red stripe and brown to black/white stripe.....
but not sure.

the plug you have looks like it has pins on the end, these will just pin straight into the harness plug..... and then you can use a little silicon to seal it saves cutting if you go back to stock

You're right - just noticed that there are small bit's of the previous owner's loom's wires stiil attached... and it's exactly as you describe

This is a good idea - don't like the idea of creating a Frankenstein's Monster.

Regarding the rest, obviously the Com Llink cable goes from PFC to Apexi MAP... then the vac hose goes from MAP to the COM port on Apexi solenoid? Where does the port marked 'ON' or 'NO' go to?

Am I also to believe that the port without a nozzle, 'NC', points downward and vents to air, so no water gets in?

no thats not right

com port on solenoid goes to wastegate, no port goes to pressure side of turbo, if its a classic theres a port on the turbo itself.

hose from the map sensor goes to the intake manifold for boost/vac reference...

if you call me i can run you through it as you do it, dead easy pm'd you my number

Question

Cheers mate, appreciate all your help and stuff. I've got other bits and bobs to get fitted prior to a remap, so I'll prob get Zen to fit it anyway - it'll be a doddle for them.

However, in theory and if I wanted, could it be fitted now and my Apexi PFC would still work okay?! i.e. it's been mapped at 1.1bar (only the one boost pressure setting obviously), or would I need the Commander (haven't got one YET), to enter and select 1.1kg/cm2 in one of the 4 available boost settings, before the Apexi solenoid/MAP will actually work correctly with the PFC?

no you'll need the commander as you have to activate the boost control kit from the settings, so i wouldnt do anything right now just leave as is. once you have a commander you can change the settings to activate, and play with the boost control settings, dont go over current map settings though...

Ahh, I thought that may have been the case, thanks!

In the Commander's menu, where would you activate the Apexi boost control kit - is it under Setting > Boost... or the Etc menu?

If you know of anyone selling a 2nd hand Commander (correct product code 415-N001 for the v.1/2 GC8A PFC), then you know who to contact

Many thanks mate - respect due

Question

Cool...

JGM Simon has offered to fit the kit prior to when I get it booked in with him for the remap day

For the record, does anyone know what pressure the v.1/2 Apexi boost kit's MAP sensor is rated at?

the apexi map sensor should be a 3 bar sensor so capable of running upto 2bar boost or 30psi

Cheers. I suspect that with my mods and the limitation of the TMIC, the max safe boost level would be in the region of c.1.4-1.5bar (20-22psi), so well within its limits. . Obviously Simon will map for safest max boost anyway...
