The WRX uses tumble valves, which doesn't go with the AVCS loom. Etc...
Ok,

So on that basis, you think with the correct turbo I could get to 450/500 BHP on std wrx heads and cams? I'm trying to stage the upgrades so that as little labour as possible is required, e.g if porting/cams would be needed it would be best done the right time and not at a later date thus requiring the engine removing again? How much would a port and polish and cams add to the original idea of £4895? I can then change the turbo at a later date once the engibe is fully run in, and would an ecutek map be good enough?

There's obviously a difference between 450 and 500! I'd say with the right turbo, an S206, you'll make 450 without having to work too hard. With switchable mapping you'd be able to exploit dual fuel options to push it out for run what you brung if that's where you're at. Basic head work and cams will cost you from £1200. With your current turbo you don't need them, and I wouldn't bother. Simtek is the cost effective solution for full live mapping and map switching. The new version has knock correction and closed loop idle control at no extra cost.

alano do you sell the stroker kits as a package for people to build?
also, sorry if i missed it already, but what sort of torque are the 2,1's making, is is similar or pretty close to the hp?
is there a big difference in using say, sti 6 heads as opposed to AVCS at all?

Hi Alan,
this is the first time i've asked you a question on SN. I've just read through this thread, and have also read this months article in Total Impreza regarding the 2.1 stroker. i have a 2003 JDM 2 litre Spec C, - SCDB, hyperheuetic pistons(i think/i'm told), AVCS and twinscroll of course with standard vf36 turbo, air oil cooler, transmission coolers and anti surge fuel pump all as standard.
Would my car benefit from the longer crank/rods, and would there be gains with the turbo already on its limits? car currently 350bhp with exhaust/filter/3 port solenoid/and ecutek map.

We finished one last week which made 506 bhp and 485 lbs ft torque. Of course it's all about the details, but the nett effect is to raise the torque levels with a stroker.
We prefer not to supply kits as such, as the whole point is to ensure that the engineering is properly done. We use carefully developed processes to ensure the correct result.
I'm not sure that converting to AVCS is worth the effort, compared to spending money on modifying the non AVCS heads.

Hi Andrew

Nice car you have there! A stroker certainly wouldn't hurt it, 450 bhp easy with your S-CDB. Iain Litchfield has been working on some new twin scroll turbos, we have a project coming up using one with a hatch, which looks very promising. You have a few options of course. The longer stroke would make your original turbo spool up very well, and give better torque. We know the S206 turbo will make an easy 100 bhp over your current figure, and it works nicely with a 2.1, or you have the possibilities of a bigger twin scroll. Whatever you decide, we'd be pleased to help you.

Alan :

Hi

I'm looking at options for a new engine/parts.

How much would you be asking for a built 2.1 CDB (can you supply and machine CDB please)? With uprated oil pump etc.

I have two STi V4 blocks kicking about if you need some too :P

Just pricing up my options at the moment. Go route of new block, or re build current block with new crank and rods.
