I think if your down the lorry park or paycocke road on a friday or saturday night - you know whats going on whether your specatating or attempting to drive.
Also (and this is only my opinion) i think to "label" everyone who goes down there as a chav or muppet I personally think is quite offensive. I'm not a chav OR a muppet - I do make some rather large errors ::cough clutch cough cough:: LOL - but I'm not a bloody idiot. I know if I get out of my car and stand by a roundabout where people who aren't the best drivers in the world are twatting it round and round - I KNOW there is risk of injury because sometimes accidents happen! (Personally I don't do that - it was just an example). Also, whilst I do agree with what Gangsta said - I disagree that people do it because its illegal - thats crap. I can't speak for everyone and I'm sure that there is probably a couple of numptys who do like that "rebelious" risk - but thats like saying "I only do drugs because there illegal" or "I only do 100mph on the motorway because it illegal".

In short - everyone is different and everyone gets something different out of these unorganised events - just as "we" all get something out of our organised events! (even if it is just to have our wallets lightened by the cash fairy)

As for Essex Arena - they got greedy - thats why the appeal is tarnished - what started out as £10 per car - eventually ended up as £'s per person - which is silly and expensive.

and just to clear up what I have the problem with, is not the Prats who think they can drive after watching Tokyo drifts animated scenes, and believing them to be real and so can do it as well in their scraped together cars or daddy's brand new BMW, its the FUC=ING NOISE in my garden at 2-3 or even 4am.

And yes I would like them to go somewhere else, and annoy someone else 3years is long enough I think.

Nice to see some life back in this forum it's been missing for some months now.

dude if an entire police force ...with their scoobies, evos, ultra trained officers, dogs, helicopters and massively planned anti-cruise offences ... can't contain 'cruisers' then one man and his skip won't be able to. The problem is very simple the police lack any sort of connection with what is ACTUALLY going on and the reasons behind why people do what they do.

I sympathise with you for the noise you have to put up with ... you just have to hope that certain other areas where people now congregate become hubs and everyone moves on from the basildon haunts.

at the end of the day this is the mentality of the people attending most of these cruises...

YouTube - smashing bonet down fyl over basildon

YouTube - drifting cosworths at basildon

the Police will never stop it, as others have said all that will happen is they will move onto another location, just like the travellers

there is no 'mentality' ... people bang on and on about statistics and how this car can do this and that car can do that. These gatherings are where people see if these things can be done. whenever you see a ferrari or a lamborghini you want the owner to open it up so you can hear the noise and see the power. People want to see scoobies and evos going sideways and defying the laws of physics .. not parked up with the owners all standing there proclaiming how great they are.

If lads and lasses driving sideways around a lorry park or driving around a mini roundabout on a road which no other drivers other than 'cruisers' go to at 12:30 at night is the worst crime that's going to happen then bring it on. There are rapists, muggers and the new wave of knife criminals out there and to be honest I would much rather the police spend their time and resources on making me feel safe when I walk outside at night than wasting time and my tax on prosecuting people for driving around sideways and making noise.

i personally just think its pretty mundane standing outside watching someone rag their tyres on a boring industrial estate...

It really must be an age thing....

give me a midnight run down childerditch lane any time!!!

i grew up with southend cruises and such like and remember when the majority of cars down there were American, not French lol.

as i say, for the most they dont interfere with me directly, but it will affect someone, somewhere.

Beesti, you have my sympathy too mate

off down the gym now, to stand around and listen to music!!!

laters!

FWIW, here's my opinion.

People have stated they have 'no rights'. Believe me Essex Police could call upon much more draconian measures if they wished too. There is an Act of Parliament that gives (uniformed) officers the power to seize vehicles if they are causing 'harressment, alarm or distress'. Reading BeeSTI's comments it's fair to say he suffers at least two of those. If he and his neighbours created a lot of fuss I could see a few people loosing their cars be it a Saxo, Scoob, Ferrari or whatever. That's regardless if they own the car, be the registered keeper or not. I think if this Act was implemented it would upset a number of people but would give others something to dwell on. A point of interest is that the power not only covers dangerous/inconsiderate driving, but noisey exhausts & ICE. The whole point of this Act was to deal with 'cruise' nights.

Of course bringing in a dispersal area will move the problem. The Local Authority and Police already know that. BUT it deals with the issues that are currently being suffered. Again there's a far more draconian power that prevents more then one person remaining in an area if the authorities believe that a gathering would result in anti social behaviour. If the problems move elsewhere a new dispersal zone will be authorised. All it takes is the agreement of the Local Authority and the Superintedent of the local Police Station and the zone could be set up. The only problem is policing the zone, but that's another matter!!

As already been mentioned above, the zone will be implemented if those attending are causing anti-social behaviour. There's a really simple answer, DON'T BEHAVE BADLY. There's a time and place for everything. Not 4AM on a Sunday morning yards away from someones back garden. We all know of individuals who have engaged in street racing, doughnut'ing and such like irresponsible bad driving. All I can say is, would they like it outside the front of their house????

very informative but the same old threats ... the measures will not stop 'cruising' or diminish the desire to meet up and 'street race' for those that wish to engage in such things. And that's many thousands of cars every saturday night.

All that would do is push the problem onto another area and prove, yet again, that the police haven't the slightest clue what to do about it or control it.

You must also not forget that this activity is big business. the police in southend have to tolerate it because the business it generates along the seafront is so much that there would be uproar if any stupid measures like the mentioned are put into place.

In Basildon you even have a guy in a snack van following the 'cruisers' and posting on the forums where they hang out to find out where all the cars will be.

Police have no idea i'm afraid. Even when they do consult the public they talk to people who have no idea about the scene and are absolutely no help whatsoever. The council are even worse! They allowed some complete moron who had no influence and no clue to set up a legal cruise, and then invited people who had equally no idea about what actually happens onto a discussion panel. I believe a member of the ESC was on that panel, and no offence to you matey but you don't really have anything to do with the underground elements of the scene and could no way talk on it's behalf! as I said no offence meant to that ESC member but you know this subject is one I hold very close.

Adidas, all that you have mentioned we have tried the local police don't really want to know, Darren even contacted the Chef constable and was asked to keep a list of incidents and incident numbers which he has done to date, but things only seem to get done if he mentions this fact when he phones in, at what ever hour of the morning we decide we can't take any more.
he is also a member of the local neighbourhood action team as of this month and will be pressing the council to hurry Mr Toomey of Toomys car franchises who owns the lorry park site to put up more substantial barriers.

As you have said the whole estate has be lobbied and informed who to phone and we know that a lot do phone the police and complain, but it still seem that the police tend to leave them alone until they get a large quantity of complaints ...... possibly because they are of the road and therefore less work for them

I see your point Rob and I do agree with alot of the above! I also can understand BeeSTi frustrations as I live near by as well and when I am not out on a Saturday night it also keeps me up if the windows are open!

But I solved that problem with a £99 Air con unit from tesco so now the window stays shut and I get a good nights sleep!

All the top drifters your see at the EDC all learned to skid on the streets and all the top drifters still do it on the street, just have to be in the right place at the right time and the real action moved from Basildon area a long time ago when it started to get to busy!

The places they go now are far away from any houses and even the police leave them alone! Soon all the others will find the new locations and move there like they always do!
