The incompetance of this government beggers belief!
I have an 03 STi which I bought new, totally unaware of what was to be proposed. I will (if it goes through) be expected to pay £445 in 2010 Anyone buying such a car after 2006 should have known this and made decisions accordingly.
What with the 10p tax (which affects me as I'm semi-retired) road tax, uncontrolled immigration etc. I have never been so incensed by an administration in all my 60 odd years on this Earth!

I was responding to the bloke who was moaning about tax on his 2007 Impreza. The rising tax situation for this car (band G) were in full public knowledge and were announced in the 2006 Budget. He immediately announced a band G with taxes rising for this car to £210 a year. In the budget of 2007 he announced that band G would rise to £300 for 2007 and £400 for 2008. So, I'll say it again, the knowledge for tax rates have been public knowledge for at least a year that 07 cars would be paying £400, probably even before the OP bought his car.

If you wish to bleat on about 2001 reg'd cars then don't quote me as part of your triade when I'm refering to 2007 cars.

My Impreza was registered on the 19 of Feb 2001. I heard that the tax increase was to come into force on cars registered from the 1st of March 2001. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Hopefully the value of my "ugliest and least desirable" (thanks petesdad) may hold.

Even if I have to pay the extra I will. IN DEFIANCE

I've checked my V5 and my JDM 2001 STI registered in Nov 2001 has no c02 recorded (SVA)
I'm pretty sure I just pay by the engine size, so does anyone have an idea what it will go up to Over the next few years?

No, I know that the war on us motorists will persist for some time but I do beleive there will be an eventual backlash.

I saw a granada somewhere recently with a V8 and a bumper sticker that said

"Global what"

That's the spirit.

I accept that changes may need to occur but I have a number of issues.

First we are being bullied into an ideology by left wing fascism.

Secondly there is no SOLID evidence that climate change is a direct consequence of human activity

Third, many many other countries are 'polluting' the atmosphere at a rate way beyond what we do.

Lastly I vote for (if they field candidates) the person that suits my way of thinking.

Presently that is right of centre.

so be it.

But what a state of affairs has this country come to when I am left with no other choice than to vote for the 'far right'?

What other choice is there?

Voter turn out for David Davis's bi election was 34%.

That is frankly shocking.

When this country turns into a police state. (it already has)

We will rue the day we didn't vote.

What sort of contempt must the Labour party have for us when the didn't even bother to field a candidate?

Even if they were staring defeat in the eye they should have acted with a bit more dignity.

The costs would have been even higher than the £250,000 the 'Davis Event' has already cost us ..... Labour have to be congratulated on keeping the costs down.

They also didn't want to pander to some rich Torys ego - so the election got no attention whatsoever.

And NOTHING was gained by it either .... the Tory Toff just wasted £250,000 of yours and my money!!

But who do you think will pay for your vast welfare state in a couple of decades, when there's no North Sea oil left? That's why it will never happen...

For once I agree with Pete on the David Davis issue. He was just showboating; the whole thing was a big waste of money. Besides, if he'd really wanted to make a stand about something, he should have done it over the EU consitution, which represents a much bigger infringement of our democracy than the possibility of locking up a few terrorists for a couple of weeks longer.

LOL - The near 1.5billion barrels of oil(Buzzard has near 1 billion) will see our needs well into the future as well as selling it to the immigrants and terrorists/kinfers/gangs down south. Ireland only has stag nights and Guiness to run it's counrty, we'll do just fine!!!

True, it was showboating and a waste of money. But once he forced a bi election I believe Labour was obliged to field a candidate even if it meant more waste of our money.

They either thought 'were gonna lose so whats the point?' or they thought 'we have enough seats and don't need anymore'

both views are contemptuous

I agree with many on here who think its unreasonable. I do about 6k a year from bishop to spenny, which must be a lot less wear and tear than my sales exec mate rolling 40k a year in his repmobile. However I got my renewal yesterday and paid my £210 pronto as I was expecting £400 (probably for not reading the posts on here properly)

Can Newcastle become a province of your new state? I'd rather be governed from edinburgh than by that town far down south full of foreigners and southerners

Heres one - Some sticker manufacturer (take a break from soppy rally stickers?) should make a "Band G and proud" sticker. I bet they would sell?

Feel free. The Toon army might even manage to squeeze the mighty Motherwell and Aberdeen out of a UEFA cup spot if they were to join the SPL!
