And please don't keep going on about the saloon in the states as if it's the same as the old shape. A couple of weeks ago I was working next to a dealership in Canada and went and had a look. The "saloon" is the hatchback with a 2" boot tacked on. Pretty it certainly is not. It may be a saloon in name (which keeps the mercans happy) but it's nothing like the previous models.

I've driven the UK STi and it feels dull and rolls too much. Give it a PPP and a prodrive suspension pack and I'll give it another go. I'll also try Powerstations JDM. If there ever is a 3 door then I'll be very interested.

Yeah, I get that impression too.

They seem to work much better in certain colours, white ones look awesome, black Evo's look like turds (as, evidently, do red STis) and that gorgeous candy red that Mitsi used for all the concept and promo shots looks utter crap in the flesh

The mitsi is considerably more expensive than an STi (about 4k if you buy the top end STi to the bottom end evo), both weigh in at about the same weight, the JDM version is a completely different beast to the UK car (more power and quicker ) and anything that has FQ in it for a mitsi is "tuned" already v a standard UK STi.
The new STi is a far better car than its predecessors, looks better (it grows on you like any subaru does) doesnt look dated like the (really old) cars and beats the tuned old prodrive cars without them being tuned now

Welcome to the future, and its looking good

Tony
Frankly, your deluded. The new scooby is wrong, wrong, wrong. It looks awful, and in this market this is BIG factor. It rolls and understeers like a pig pre-eating the stuffing when compared to the evo. 0.02sec difference ahead of the scooby? Matters not, and the timings could be argued.

Subaru have dropped the ball; I hope they see this soon and get back on track.

Has anybody who has commented negatively or postively about the new Impreza ACTUALLY driven one?

A fair point. But given that 80 plus percent of the reason for owning one of these cars is the visual presence makes it a moot point in my opinion. We all enjoy having a scooby for two reasons; firstly because they go like stink and secondly, because they LOOK like they go like stink. You don't buy a scooby to keep your head down. You enjoy cars and you don't mind people knowing it.

This is what wins at the moment. The evo is a better looking car that performs as well , if not better. Job done imho...

I hope subaru sort this soon

Isn't that pic just a mock up of the alleged Tommi Makkinen edition not an actual car?

Plus Evo looks great from the front but the rear still has issues. Looks a bit Laguna with a Teg DC5 wing on it.

5t.

I don't need to drive it to tell you it looks butt ugly in pictures and in the flesh. And judging by the pitiful numbers of the the new models I have seen on the road it would seem others don't like it either.

Subaru have screwed up and of course people on here are going to defend it, but luckily I can see beyond blinkered brand loyalty.

They are alientaing much of the market share they have worked hard to get. Oh well it's their funeral.

About the pityfull numbers comments though - do you see alot of new evo's around ?
They are new cars and people dont just buy them as soon as they come on the market, it takes time...

But i do agree that it is ugly as sin and no body kit can fix that. Evo on the other hand can be made to look quite handsome with a few choice mods like the above picture.

Ugly yes but do you know what it drives like which is my question not whether it's ugly or no.
Screwed up, no, not when worldwide sales are up for virtually all their models
Was i defending it ,no, just asking a simple question.

I'm not loyal to subaru at all i own 1 that's all if i could afford another car (i have a particular liking for the new wave of german fast saloons) then i would see about buying one of them.

Not many on the road is not surprisng with petrol costs and new car tax laws is it?

I dont think that the colour Red did the Scooby STi any justice on Top Gear last night, Ive seen them in white and Wr blue and they look rather nice, Evo still looks like crap at the front and back, the open mouth plastic bit where the intercooler sits looks terrible, makes the cooler look really small!!!!

If I had the cash to buy either of them cars, it would be a Scooby STi in white with a set of black wheels!!! Very nice!!!!

Which bit of I don't care what it drives like are you missing here? I have owned 4 Scoobs and whilst not beautiful cars they at least looked purposeful. The new one is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen and hence it could drive like the best car in the world for all I care as I will not ever own one.

So how on the one hand are sales up worldwide yet on the other it is not surprising they are not selling because of petrol costs?

Anyway even if sales are up they will not be selling to many of us already hooked in to the brand as the car is not a good replacement for the car we have already bought into. If they had a half decent saloon here as well then they could probably keep a good share of the customers they already have AS WELL as gain new ones.

why couldn't you say 'no i haven't driven one' that would have been a simple answer to a simple question which is the one i asked.
you've said 'Anyway even if sales are up they will not be selling to many of us already hooked in to the brand as the car is not a good replacement for the car we have already bought into'
How do you know how good or bad it is if you haven't driven one?Yes it's fugly but that doesn't make it a bad car it just makes it car you don't want.

Sales are up WORLDWIDE which means the may not be selling here but the yanks and japs seem to like them as i expect they aren't having the problem with their governments introducing stupid tax laws

Because whether I have driven one or not is irrlevant to the comment I have made about the car. I don't need to drive one to see its the ugliest thing on four wheels since the Fiat Mulitpla.

Er... because I don't need to drive one to spot it's a hatchback (a bloody ugly one at that ) when the older cars are saloons

But your basing your opinion on it being a bad car from it being hatchback ,does being a hatchback mean it's a bad car though?

Or do you not like ANY hatchback?

I personally don't care whether it's a hatchback or not, but plenty on here and elsewhere do. My point is you can't replace a saloon with a hatchback and expect to retain all those people that biought your car becuase it was a saloon. Different market.

Flame suit on!!

I actually like the new STI!! I know that it is a dramatic change from the norm, but then look at the reception the bugeye got from the classic crowd when that came out....it was different...and to some it was too different, but since then just look at how many bought into that car!!

It has always been a bit of a love hate debate on almost every mark Subaru released.

I know that some of the styling on the newer car is a little off the wall, but then that is just how things are going at the moment. Look at the radical re-design of the Civic for instance!!

There are many people out there that would never buy the older shape Subaru's (my wife for one!), because they look too aggressive, or ugly etc... and Subaru obviously picked up on this with the newer release.

I think that some people are now jumping the newshape hating bandwagon now because of the fear of liking it and being alienated from the crowd. I would buy one...not at it's current price mind, but I think for what it now is, it is a nice car.
