Thanks for the interest guys

The car is at RCM at the moment -
The Up-Down and link pipes came back from being coated last Thursday, Its a case of fitting them and then mapping - and a few small tidying bits. To be fair most of the work has been carried out by AlanG and RCM, so the results are a credit to them not me.

I havent pushed for the project to be finished too hard recently as the seasons for track days and Santapod is over and I have been ultra busy at work and with my Father passing away last weekend after a year long battle with cancer - its been a bit down on the list of priorties.

RCM always have 6-7 months of work in the pipeline, but hope it wont be too long now.

The cars being maped for VP Import fuel, so hope to have two maps, as I dont fancy running it in for a 1000 miles at £30 a gallon

So I guess if I get it finished in the next month, ill be happy, but not much I can do with it apart from becoming a dyno queen untill about march.

When I get it back, ill try out my canon 400D and get some completed pics posted up.

May be going over to 15" wheels later next year - but thats part of phase II

Cheers for the update Sy...and sorry to hear about the sad news about the father

I agree with the likes of the season being over and there is no real need to push the project forward.
I wish you the best of luck and hope to see it sometimes in the future.

Regards

Peter

Always a pleasure to read....you're fulfilling a dream that most of us can only ...dream about.

Sorry to hear about the old man, a release maybe though.

Thanks for the kind words Daz.

To be honest, I wish id kept the rods and pistons and crank I sold you as I fancy building a spare engine myself. Apart from the engine in the car, I have a complete standard 05 USDM STI 2.5 and an EJ22T CDB here which has been bored, faced and modified for 14mm studs and rear thrust bearing, so want to build up a spare engine in case I have a blow up early next year. There are some issues with the EJ22T block I have that only showed up when it was machined i.e small patch of pins head size hole in one of the bores, the patch is a few mm in diameter. There also a couple of threads that need repairing, so not sure if i will proceed with it. I know I can reliner it, but always been against this practice - (I know many have had no issues doing this thou).

Agreed about the filter, how the engine gets enough air to run is amazing?

Thats got to be one of the top 3 most mental engines, with the RCM Gobstopper and Andy Forrests motor.

Got a couple of questions if you don't mind.
The extra switches. They look OEM, are they the bright switches, re-labelled?

The passenger glovebox. What MY is it from, and is it a dash out job to remove the airbag and put this in place?

IGnore my questions. I've seen this thread plenty of times, and just looked over it again, and seen they are bright switches.
Also so the passenger airbag out, with the dash still in.

Hi Joey,

Yes Bright switches with Dymo White on Black labels. Paid about £25 for machine in RS (www.rswww.com).

I removed the passenger air bag (do this with the ignition off - and with caution, will cause airbag light to stay on if you dont remove whole system), and used a cover from a Type R, aparently, some have passenger air bags and some have the upper glove box cover.

Sy,

PS
Thanks for the nice comments guys. Running in at the moment. So 3 k max - with little boost. On basic map.

Gauges left to right

Fuel Presure - Oil Presure/temp - Boost to 3 bar

The dash logs all of theses but I like to have mechanical gauges as well for theses parameters.

*****- in centre small one traction control, larger one to right, DCCD control.

Gold **** to right of steering wheel - brake balance.

Curious as to why the engine configuration was reverted back to the more traditional rear entry Inlet on the Inlet Manifold?? Whats the benefits/reasons for this??

I remember when Alan still had it, it was Front Entry?? Awesome car all the same

Yes, its from a e46 4 door sport, I bought a cheapy off ebay, but it melted in the oven, so got a genuine BMW one, which is a bit more durable.

Not sure about carbon ones, but I guess you will not have to paint it, so no worries about baking
