well if it's just to display hiow rich you are then go for the x5..wont get you out of a muddy football field,but then again.most who own these cars never go off road anyway..If you weant a prooper 4x4,and not some poncy rich guys wagon.then the landcruiser is the one..my thoughts are money will come before brains on this one....

yes you will get 2 bikes in an x5 but will do that much damage on just one trip you will probably never do that trip again ...i know i never did

 

You want an X trail for throwing muddy things in the back like bikes or whatever.

Love ours,just wash out the boot after.No silly carpeting just some material like those Samsonite cases are made from.

 

Really did not expect my terminology to create quite the "class" war that it has. I did not wish to achive this effect.
My last comment on this (and possibly now on Scoobynet in the future ) is that I LOVE my 911. I also cannot afford to buy a new 4WD just to accomodate a couple of bikes , but would like something with some pedigree to drive as an alternative "everyday car" eg in bad weather. Much as I respect old landrovers, they just do not fill this dual role for me.
I have had some wonderful cars and have shared details of them on this site for a long time as well as responding to people's questions in an objective manner where I can be of assistance. Now I will really think twice about submitting ANY future postings on this site.

Dave, one thing you should know by now is that if you openly talk about what you have or haven't got then you'll be opening yourself up to all manner of replies. Your last reply does you know favours at all.

I always manage to keep the fact I use my cars less and less now and prefer to travel by helicopter and send my bikes on to the destination via courier, if there isn't a bike shop open where I could purchase a new one to use while I'm there.

 

 

I do the same as Spoon but send one of the butlers out to do the ride for me if it looks like rain

 

when dave first showed pics of his new car in other marqes he got a great response, and rightly so its a great car, i guess you gotta take the good with the bad here mate

I took a picture earlier today of my vegetable patch while trying out a new design of rotor blade and checking my gardeners were doing what they were asked.

Not strictly true, my estate manager asks the gardeners, but I do ask him as telling anybody to do something is counter productive and simply bad manners.

I haven't seen any post that criticises his car. Most of the posters would love one, including me.

When you take his first post at face value, it just seems like he HAD to point out that he owned a TWIN TURBO version and not just any old 911. The question didnt really merit any need to mention what the other car was at all.

I think he knows why many have reacted negatively, even if he didnt mean to provoke. I suspect there would have been very little criticism if he'd even just said the other car was a 911.

He got a good reaction from his thread in other marques as it was specifically about the car in a section of the forum that appreciates them.

Yes, I believe the marque of car is less common in that forum than it is here so it was exciting for them. I know of four 911 twin turbos in here so its less of a novelty.

Dave, it's just British society, you just have to read the gutter press to realise that British society likes nothing better than to put down folk who have been successful.
The week I got my STi (10 yrs ago) some ****** put a key down most of the panels, disappointing that this sort of attitude has found it's way into SNET posts.
According to this thread I'm a rich poncy bloke who bought an X5 to show how rich I am - oh, and it can't get out of a muddy field.

I don't think anybody on the thread as actually put Dave down and I'd certainly doubt one comment came even close to the action of the ******/s that keyed your car. Dave kind of put himself down by his last tantrum post though. Fair play to his success I say, many have had it but choose to keep it quiet. However, if you put it online expect some ribbing.

Me, I was just disappointed he expects to get 2 bikes in the car where I'd buy 2 cars and have a bike in each.

Looks like a fair few of the NSR collective don't venture into Other Marques that often, otherwise I doubt Dave would have got the reception he hadn't anticipated!

I was attempting J4CKO's MPG challenge and running low on fuel so needed to lean it over to help fuel pick-up.

 

Unfortunately Dave, it's the typical British mentality. If you have worked hard to get nice thing, people who don't have those nice things too will criticise you.

Personally, I think good on you. You've owned some nice cars. F360, 911 Turbo, and you haven't got those by working in MacDonalds. You've made something for yourself, and nice cars and I dare bet you have a nice home too are rewards for that hard work.

It would be a shame if you stopped posting on here because of a few silly comments.

If you go back to your original post and read it completely dispassionately, you might see that you could not expect a much different reaction to the way you wrote it.

You would do better just to treat it as a big joke really. It usually helps to give back as good as you got but with a smile and then we can all have a bit of a laugh to help the world go round.

If you are ever up this way I would be delighted. I have previously offered this in my earlier cars as I enjoy seeing people happy and have been fortunate to get run's myself in other people's pride and joys! (including a 959 in the late 80's when I could not even think of a really nice car for myself).

 

Without being funny,when I was looking for a small sports car it was an absolute must that I would be able to fit my (large) cricket back in the boot.

Used to carry it with me and the first thing I did was try fitting it in the boot of potential purchases before I even tried the car (garages were obliging) Elise was out obviously,mx5 secured the money.

Can you not just borrow an X5 and try the bikes?

Can I have a spin now too?Everyone will be queing up with suggestions now (still think mine was a fair one in the first place)
