500, I guess the numbers do add up. Thanks for that. I only said impractical because I have a mate with an LPG 7-series and the boot is next to useless. Maybe you have a better conversion because there is no way you can get the weekly shop in his car.

I see it as differing point of views rather than conclusions, cumstances I believe can affect this,I opted to buy the Scooby rather than buying another motorbike.
I stopped riding enduro's last year and decided something was missing...fun.
I sold my family car Scenic(wife still has hers),but opted against buying a bike as I would always need a car..in that situation what else would be considered for the money..
I will use any excuse to go out in it,since I've had it I've driven her car once or twice, necessity.
I don't drink or smoke,my choice obviously,so the scoob is my only vice.
Speed humps yes crap and taken with consideration.
Plod is where you expect and being ex-spg(since it was disbanded) are very entertaining, being a garrison town they have plenty to worry about and their persecution of motorists seems to have wained somewhat..touch wood...
Ascot only tends to be busy during race days and Legoland (11 am~ish) opening times, you know how to avoid these areas.
BTW I have noticed a growth in the amount of scoobies around here,is it just because I have one?Cheers.

No worries, they add up for us and thats the main thing

Boot space has been lost, but theres only 2 of us, so not much shop, plus we have back seats or a Discovery LPG (underslung tanks)amongst others if we need boot space

You are right but most of the things you mention are influenced heavily in the decisions made by the individual.
If driving/owning a scooby is not suitable so be it,but you shouldn't really quantify it using the diversity of the national populus,if you decide to drive a Fiat it's because it suits you and perhaps your predicament.
The post actually looks like your trying to defend driving a Fiat.
Swap my scooby for another car..not in the forseeable future and certainly not a Fiat.
No dig intended just an opinion as is yours.
I don't think he is trying to justify owning a fiat he just can't see the point of using the scoob as a daily drive. I drive a Saxo VTR for daily use that I've had for six years with over 106k on the clock. My job intails going down tracks and roads where you wouldn't dream of taking and expensive toy. If people judge me for driving a Saxo and think I don't have the pennies to buy something else then they are well wide of the mark. I have a EVO VI TME, MY05 STI PPP and Integra Type R sitting in the garage. They are toys for the weekend not work vehicles pure and simple. Fortunately for me I don't live in a country that judges your wealth on the car you drive unlike the UK.

It makes my laugh that the british government are taxing sports cars etc to get them off the road. All they are doing is making people buy cheap run arounds for work and putting even more cars on the road which really makes a lot of sense. Well done Gordon

Something else I have been pondering recently (it's an exciting place inside my mind) is how the economics are changing in favour of having two very different cars. Not so long ago the cost of buying, insuring, taxing and maintaining a second car outweighed the savings made through not driving the flash chariot. But now you save so much on fuel and running costs (it feels like tyres and servicing is getting more expensive) that it is now starting to make sense.

It will be interesting to see what combinations people start to come up with. Given their very cheap insurance and tax and outstanding residuals I rather fancy a Caterham to partner my Civic.
