doesnt matter what the group says get a quate its going to cost cos its a subaru, tell him to get a celica 2.0 it be cheaper and better on insurance and looks nice. Get one for about £1-2k. The non turbo isnt as fast as you might think its heavy cos the 4wd.

Wasn't going to get involved in this but... Theres a lot of people on SN who have never been near a Sport, but are all too ready to write them off.
The one I had never let me down, saw 160k and with a few mods was an involving drive. A Sport has the same weight distribution, low centre of gravity and suspension geometry as the Turbo/WRX/STi. They behave similarly and that teaches you a lot for when you move up to a quicker Scoob.
Would I recommend one if you want a car for a young lad - only really if his heart is set on future Turbo ownership. There are other quicker cheaper cars out there, but then again the Sport is a reliable and safe option.

Please define 'mint'. Thank you.
1. A place where the coins of a country are manufactured by authority of the government.
2. A place or source of manufacture or invention.
3. An abundant amount, especially of money.

I know the definitions, but wanted him to define them, as too many people use the word 'mint' to describe some real crap cars. That's all.
'It's not just a mint, it's a Tic Tac'.

get someone off here to come down had a look at the car, check for damage, miine didnt come with any history and im sure the back left has been repaired as the boot doesnt line up 100%. but then again it doesnt really matter. My mate had a estate and it was well fun, go around a round-a-bout fast enough and the fuel would cut out lol then cut back in.

ok Guys, i really did not epxect that many replies to my thread,
thanks very much to all of you for giving me positive and negetive advices about the sport impreza. but please i do not want conflicts.
well overall, i think i will go for it and buy one for my son, sorry guys who told me to buy somethingels with the money, but i think this is the best option ,
has the look of a turbo, sounds the same, it has 4WD, but not turbo (cheaper insurance, more reliable, better maintenance,)so i will be sitting home with no stress thinking that my son is gone put his foot down anytime and the turbo will carry him away lol, i think its a safe option
cheers

Speaking as someone who had a non turbo (lowly 1.6 at that) Scoob at 17 and still has it 6 years later having now driven numerous other Scoobs inc Turbo, STi, RB320:
Any "sorted" Scoob will go round corners much faster than most cars, turbo or not (given a long enough straight before the corners!). The Sport's handling is very similar to the Turbo, identical after a few upgrades, but they don't have the warp drive feel between the corners. They're not a slouch compared to most cars, but are slow compared to most performance cars. (1.6 is not fast in anyone's terms though; 2.0 much better). They may not look pretty in a sports car way but they look good in a 'weapon from Japan' sort of way, which, despite the Impreza's sunken image, is still a lot cooler than a Saxo or similar in many car enthusiasts' eyes. Lastly, a looked after Sport will go on forever and protect your son if he has an accident; a small French car will not. The downside is he may well be travelling faster when he has the accident.
Don't spend any money trying to make it more powerful: handling and braking are the only really worthwhile performance mods, sound and looks is your choice. If a Scoob is what he wants although he can't have a Turbo, and costs aren't much of an issue, then he should get the Sport Hope he enjoys it.
