I totall agree with you..big "pig" of a car...
Sorry again Chu....but we take these big lumpy cars for granted...

Take an M3 BMW...for example..
Its starts its life as a hunble bass 3 series and get transformed into an animal of a car...but....it has amazing levels of refinement..BMW didnt just stick on a bit of fake woodgrain and some leather seats etc....They turned it into a magnificent vehicle..
Take a GTS-R Holden...for example..
It started as a basic crappy travelling salesman car with bad brakes, steering, seats, gears, old rough engine, and extremely poor build quality...(dont believe me...check out 1 with 75,000km on the clock after 3 years...They are clapt out buckets and have been superseded 3 times since purchase.)
HSV then getthe car...ad nice seats...fake woodgrain..leather wheel etc...bigger engines.....suspension...but the build quality...paint...and everything that has remained unchanged remains crap.....
Sorry Chu...enjoy your car....
but as we Ozzies live and drive em....I think we are in a far better position to comment than you guys who merely read about them.
Re-sale value in OZ.....
V poor...

The sooner they stop building crappy Commodores & Falcons the better..

CHU

NO bugger!!!
Its your car now....
Enjoy it..
Besides ...in the UK....everyones gonna wrentch their neck to get a perve as to what the hell your car is.

May you have many years (no more than 3 hehe)of enjoyable trouble free, safe driving. After 3 years you WILL have trouble....
SO alls u need do is advertise the car in 2.5 years...still with new car warranty...Re-sale in the UK at least should be v good...coz as u say...its different..

Happy Driving.

www.hsv.com.au

HSV (holden special vehicles) will hepl with all the add on and go fast bits and pieces...
I'd imagine that UK site u posted earlier would have similar and far more accessible for yourself..

G;lad they enjoyed the car at the track meet..
Was it for any particular type of car ....? or just a meet and hammer type day.

Bugwaan,
Hello Mcfly, are you listening to Chu? He wants a car that is different in this country, and it certainly is. I have never seen one before. If he wanted a car to handle he would use his STI type r now wouldn't he. If he was concerned about fuel he would have bought a metro The car is a beast so Give the fine man some slack will ya!

I remember when I was in OZ and I used to buy Modern Motor magazine, (similar to EVO, CAR), in the letters section, HSV people used to give the WRX people heaps and vice versa. Bit like what's going on here. Most people there, either love or hate the WRX and it's the same for the HSV.

I'm one of the few that likes both!!!

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Same here mate.

Back in Sydney I used to drive an HSV XU8

Over here and I'm driving a rex

Horses for courses. The HSV eats up the long motorway miles, but I couldn't think of a car that I would rather have over the rex for the wee Scottish back roads

Thumbs up

Chu, serious car mate. A V8 is rare these days and the sound even with standard exhaust was superb. There is nothing like it.

So, Scooby when wet + Holden when dry = jammy bar steward!!!!!!

Enjoy it Chu, it's what you wanted and you got it.

Don't listen to the bug eyed scooby **** , enjoy your car and the imense fun that you can only have with big power RWD cars.
I own a MY01 as well and great though it and the previous generation Scoob are compared to Birdy's new M3 thet are a little boring IMHO ie. understeer city.
Still each to his own

Exclamation

Bugwaan,

As far as I could see you made yourself clear from your posts. And I did see your post where you praised Chu and even the car. I saw nothing wrong, even earlier. They were true facts you mentioned about the big V8s. I owned one.

I hope you didn't get my first post on this page all wrong. It was not refering to you. I was just remenising (spelling?) the old days back in OZ of the WRX vs HSV days.

Oh and when you were typing your 22.02pm post, at the same time I was typing my 22.05 post. I'm a slow typer. So when my post got sent, that's when I saw your 22.02 post.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

When I first seen your post I have to admit I thought they where well out of order , that someone saves hard to get a good car with plenty of poke , to have someone tell them there car is crap and they ain't worth a **** . At the end of the day it seemed as though you realised that Chu is happy with his car , despite the reputation they have in Aus .
I saw the car yesterday and to be honest I thought it was one hell of a beast , it is not a car that we see every day in this country and is certainly a novelty to hear a big V8 these days , as you say petrol is not cheap over here but it is probably more economical than my scoob .
Cheers Dave

In my previous post I wrote "I saw nothing wrong, even earlier". It should have read, I saw nothing wrong, even earlier, except the way you came on a bit strong in that first post.

Still, you realised it and came good later. That's what counts.

I love those HSVs and I love the WRXs. IMHO they are both great cars, as I've said in my previous posts on this thread. I owned a HSV and I now own a WRX. I wish I could have both.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

> have spoken to HSVUk about the traction control, the unit which >they use in the GTS-R UK is differant to the standard items, they >do cut engine power and applie braking power to the spinning >wheel!!there are also other changes to the UK spec GTS-R which >differ to the ones down under.

Well it's great to see that as usual we end up with the crap of the batch.... even with cars produced locally.

Chu,
One thing you need to keep in perspective is that down here you are generally a Holden fan, a Ford fan or (as some of the more freely speaking would say) you drive a nip car (a derogatory term for any car from any where in asia :P ). There are those that will sit on either side of the fence (or even on it if that way inclined :P ) but in general you sit in one category or the other. You will quite often find a lot of bagging/trash talking about other types of cars (and perspective can change when you cross camps ). I must admit that I don't particularly like Holdens or Fords myself (the Ford from having owned one and the Holdens because a lot of d#$kheads drive them over here, and yes there are d#$khead rex drivers as well), but I believe every man to his own. What tickles someone elses fancy may not be wot does it for you and vice versa but at the end of the day as long as your happy with what you have then who gives a rats *** hey

I must agree with bagwaan about the handling but it also depends on driver skill. I go to our local motorkhana (sp?) regularly here in Perth and have seen guys in Commodores (old and new including a Walkinshaw), old bulky Falcons and other "tanks" out drive guys in Skylines, Subarus and even a Lotus Elise.

Anyway thats just my 2 cents worth.
Have fun and safe motoring in ur new toy

Tony.
