when going over avons rise in to quarry you are staying to far left, there is a traffic light straight on and you need to aim for that. The chicains you are staying out to late giving it to wide a entry.Braking way early for most bends and missing a few apexi,s.

It takes time combe is not a easy track to learn.

On the track day, there were braking, turn-in and apex cones and, although the braking markers are to a degree going to be car dependent, the turn-in and apex markers were spot on I believe.

Here's my attempt if anyone wants to critique it. I'd be delighted to receive criticism - I timed every lap from my video footage and was doing 1m 26 ± 2 seconds consistently from the start of the day 'til the end, despite me thinking I was improving!

(With apologies for the sounds quality).

there are 2 lines into quarry
quote from track guide
"There are 2 alternative lines here.
The technically correct line (A) has a late turn in attempting both to extend the straight line braking area and make the apex as straight as possible.A commonly used alternative is an almost direct line between both apex's (B).This is favoured by more powerful cars ,as it allows them to brake later, without sacrificing to much exit speed.Less powerful cars ,especially those who gear the brow before slowing, use (A) as this opens the corner up for harder acceleration onto the following flat out section."

driving a low power front drive car myself i use line A ,as also recomended to me by David De Costa, and having tried both lines it is the fastest line for my car.

R.e my line into the chicanes ,im sorry but my lines are exactly what the track guide diagrams show to be the ideal line.

As for braking ,i can honestly say that i comprehensively outbraked everycar i came across all day ,so this whole post is either a wind up or your seeing a different video to me .
Watch this vid for direct comparison with another zs 180.
YouTube - rsm on track
I may miss an odd apex but not because i dont know the lines ,just because i made an error.
Dave

P.S Out of interest PAS ,what were you driving on the day?

hey Tim ,great camera angle .

Its a bit deceptive as i dont which side of the car the cameras mounted ,could even be in the middle ?,but imo you could find some time by using more width of the track ,as you arrive at a corner you want to be way out wide, almost with 2 wheels skimming the edge, then you can get on the power earlier exiting ,also be looking ahead so you can judge the earliest point you can get on the power again using the full width of the track on the exit ,allowing the car to run almost 2 wheels on the edge again as you power out, effectively making a straight line of the corner.
Good vid though and hitting most apex's ,its just causing you to apex slightly early as your not quite using the whole width of the track.
Shame couldnt hear that great scooby engine note mind

hope that helps a bit.

Dave

In car cam (Norris wipes out Prebble)
Its not a case of "if i believe it ",thats what the track GuidE says.LOok it up on the net for youR self. These are also the lines shown me by David De costa,so i rest my case!.

The camera car uses my line throuGh quarry Exactly (the line you say is wrong!)and indeed uses my lines everywhere apart from entering the first chicane ,were i turn in from wider out as opposed to them slightly more towards the middle of the track,so infact the video proves almost all of my lines are spot on.Thanks for that video, i now know im doing pretty well at 1.19 a lap with my lines
Also the video is an actual race so they are using different parts of the track as they are looking for overtaking chances.
I had a feeling you might forget my last question so here it is again
what were you driving on the day ?

Dave

Nice healthy debate on here. Hi PAS good to meet up good luck with the CC race series.

My view perhaps wrong is that Quarry depends on the weight and configuration of car.

were?
the previous example you mentioned at quarry was wrong for my car,you keep saying i could go quicker but you give me no evidence, even the video you posted replicated 95% of my lines !!!
im not comprending how you can know what lines suit my car better than i do ,do you drive a zs at combe ?
As ive already said these lines were shown me by David De Costa and i have tried multiple other lines and found these work best for me in my car.
What more can i say,you ignore the facts i post in response and give me no help to understand your thinking, ive been going to combe for four years and i know what works for my car .

Just to add some more coals to the fire......I'm a fan of not being hard over on the left at the turn-in to Quarry (haven'd used the traffic lights as a reference though, will look out for this next time), and also coming in towards the first chicane entrance, braking almost all the way in. I've found this good for the chicane at Goodwood too. This is mostly based on watching racers at the venues, and also all the obvious track marks in the tarmac!
Here's some footage from last years event: YouTube - Castle Combe 16/4/07
Edited to add: Just recollected when I attendeed the CC race school (XR3i's and FF1600; was also before the chicanes were installed!), they placed a line of cones at Quarry which kept you away from the far left of the track, so maybe that has subliminally stuck with me all these years.
But I realise its not one-line-fits-all at circuits. I had a passenger ride in the ridiculously quick MGBGT last year, and he approached quarry very 'straight' over the brow, probably due to the enormous speed.
