It is NOT an X50. You could buy the factory aerokit (shown on mine) as a separate option, as you could with the X50 engine upgrade.
However, I have already spoken to DMS and will re-map it to 515bhp on it's standard K16 Turbos. (X50 has K24's which allow even further possibilities).

Nice looking to, they do look great in red. I wanted the seal Grey but ended up with silver (arctic?).

I also opted for the tip box, love it to bits, i might be 0.2 or what ever to 60, but with the gears being sooooo long i don't think it makes any differance when you on the move.

I bet Manual and tip round a track would be the same, unless the manual driver flonked gear changes

I'd be interested to hear your views on why you went the Tiptronic route. Did you also test a manual?

I drove a Tiptronic 996 turbo once and did not like it. I thought it was not well suited to the car. I personally would never buy any Porsche in Tiptronic form - they are supposed to be involving sports cars not 'town clown' wagons, although the sad reality is that too many of them are bought by people who just want the pose factor and are not in the slightest way inclined towards using the car at its design limits. If you are going to drive a Porsche in a spirited fashion then Tiptronic is sacrilege of the highest order. Slush boxes are poop......

I had driven a Tiptronic car belonging to a friend earlier. Also, my ex RS6 was Tiptronic, my Ferrari was an F1 with paddle shifts and the Formula 1 Renault I drove 18 months ago was paddle shift. So I am now more convinced in the ability of these gearboxes and can still drive the 996 from the wheel when I feel like some fun.
Also, as it will be my everyday car it will be nice to use full auto mode when stuck in traffic.
But everyone has differing opinions.

 

With you all the way with Tiptronic Dave, for a car that's been used alot as a-b it makes the journey much easier.

And having done several thousand miles in a 996 TT with tip' i've never wished I'd gone for manual.

Like you, had the RS6 before and enjoyed the paddles.

If i were to buy a weekend car that was more of a track car with MOT and TAX then I'd go for manual, just for sheer enjoyment when driving, but it would only get used on that Sunday when you can get away from normal life, not that often. At least i can drive the long way to work in the 996, get stuck on the duel carrage way for 2-3 miles but not let it bother so much due to the auto box. Then when the roads clear go balistic for he remainder if wanted.

If it was a bad box, do you think Porsche would do it on their supercars, BMW use it on the M's, Audi on the RS's or even Ferrari on their babe's?

I drove the tip on the Porsche experience day and it confirmed that it does not suit the car (in my opinion), it's not the best of auto's where as the manual is one of the best. If you want to exploit its performance, and use it to its full potential - then get a manual.

Ok...... it's fast(ish) on boost and the auto makes progress smooth when you want to feather the throttle, but I was left completely underwhelmed.

A tiptronic on any 99X TT is an abomination.

 

I did have the manual for a while and yes, it's great, makes the car more involving but not what i want 100% of the time.

Tiptronic on a track I guess could be a little dull after a while, manual would be the one to have, But I'm not really going to be taking a 50K motor round a track, it's for every day driving to enjoy as much as possable.

Had a few tip's, semi's, step's and they've been good, ok there are the odd times when a manual would be better but that's prob only 10% of the time.

It's one of those conversasions that'll go on for ages, I remember saying years ago that I'd never have a manual........ things change

The Turbo is not a good trackday car in either guise TBH, that's why we have the GT3. But as an A-B blaster, the Turbo is peerless.

I had the Merc AMG with the paddles..... at first was worried, but then learnt all over again on how to drive using them ...........

There are times mid corner if in full auto mode that it was a right pain, as its choice could be described as inconsistant...but then in manual mode i found it near perfect......

Overall that gearbox wa a benefit for my a to b everyday driving in towns and Mways, whislt still giving me the fun when need ..... (double blip on those paddles and gone quicker than i could change )

Now in an RS4 and love it.............. question is if they had supplied it with TT gearbox, i might have taken it as well

they did a good job of hiding your car behind the r8 and the rs avant. Looks good, but to be honest i was far to busy gawping at the R8 sorry and all that. Mind you at twice the price of your porka it would have to do some grabbing.
