A salary sacrifice happens when you give up your right to receive part your pay in return for the employer's agreement to provide some form of non-cash benefit, in this case the loan of a bicycle and related equipment. A summary of the advice from the HM Revenue & Customs is available from their website at www.hmrc.gov.uk/specialist/salary_sacrifice.pdf. You are paying back the loan on your goods from gross, rather than net, pay for the hire period - hence allowing you to benefit from income tax and NI relief.

It's the Govt. as opposed to your employer.

Well yes so its both. Your employer agrees to fund it and loan you the bike for the term whilst you repay it back. The govt agree to reduce your salary so in effect you dont pay the income tax, ni etc on it and also you dont pay vat.

For once its actually beneficial to be in the 40% tax bracket as you save approx 49% on the purchase price. Most shops will only sell at their RRP so wont do a deal on top but its still a massive saving and a really good deal for most. Ive just got to wait to see if my company does it again this year as only runs in April.

There are several schemes I believe but this appears to be most popular:

Get a tax free bike for work | CYCLESCHEME

I got the Pro Disk under the scheme - 2007 model, £950 down to £750, which will be about £400 in total (you need to factor in the final selling price, if your employer will actually sell you the bike (they don't have to). Mine sell it for 5% of the total cost.
Still haven't decided whether to keep my FSR Stumpy, or just use the Rockhopper - good on and off road

Can't help that as i w*rk my **** off for a living.

The rebas are air forks so are a fair bit sensitive than coil bath types hence why you see a lot of them with lockouts.

I had the original bomber z1's pre bam but i sold them on, they weighed a ridiculous amount which upset the balance of the bike.

If you are using it to ride to work on tarmac I'd get a hybrid - faster, smoother, lighter.

Don't forget to ignore the RS printed pressures for Rebas - they are pie in the sky figures.

I didn't even read the manual, just went ahead and fitted the thing and worked a treat ever since.

But thanks anyway.

I'll chase up proper pressure settings once they need a service.

Air shocks are ridiculously bad! I was running an air shock on my XC bike.. it was only a short 40mm travel shock but it bobed like ****! Drove me up the wall!

Running Drop off III's (which weigh more than the sun!) and Boss shock with a 100/nm spring which is just about right for my weight.. With the re-bound wound right out I get no bob and its spot on for street/road riding although its hard work with high rollers and being so god damned heavy! but on the rough stuff it rocks!

Kind offer, but I'm afraid it's a 787.8 mile round trip for me to make it....

So I'll just be heading down here to the local I'm afraid

Forestry Commission Scotland - 7stanes - Glentress & Innerleithen (Tweed Valley)

Enjoy

A 661 nice, their gloves are however shocking, mace gloves particularly the shackle are great.

Air forks have come a long way nowadays and the bob is quite minimal plus ive dialled in the rebound to be quite fast so it keeps any bob to a minimum, but yes it can be a right pita on lesser bikes.

I mean a lot of magazines have given top marks to the rebas something the sids never managed, plus they had a habit for blowing seals anyway.

I can choose travel from 75mm i think up to 115 for those long descents, it is a fantastic weapon but damn well should be, a cannondale in the lbs was £3750 and was lesser specced, shocking but ive got that bike over a lot of years of riding and not all at once as most would assume.

Your brakes are they hayes, certainly look it, i replaced my hope mono m4's they were deathtraps especially when dirty, and using disc cleaner made them worse.

Now using formula oro puro and they are fantastic, very bad on the wallet however at £190 a pop.

Its not a sixsixone.. I just happened to have some sixsixone stickers lol!

The frame is home made

Brakes are Magura twin pot hyralics with 203mm discs... they are EVIL! Halo SAS rims, XT rear mech, shifter, cassette, chain.. Holzfeller stem, Holzfeller crank + BB.. MRP Chain device, Marzocchi drop off III's, Marzocchi Boss.. DMR pedals, high rollers etc. etc.

Of course, I'd have to be some sort of halfwit to not realise hux309 and huxley309 were one and the same, I was just interested to see those familiar ports shining out from the shed.

The 2nd Cyclescheme will soon be running at work and I'm busy puting together a shortlist for a replacement for my 'Dale M600. Thus far I have Orange: Crush, P7 Pro, Commencal Supernormal DeLuxe, The Spesh Stumpy Expert but so far I like the versatility of the Santa Cruz Chameleon. What can you add to the list? circ £1500

Paul.

Guys,

I'm in the market for getting a downhill MB through the cycle 2 work scheme as well. Looking for few sites that review bikes and are trustworthy as i'm not all that clued up on the matter.
Also any recommended bikes would be great. Price is about £1K

Cheers,

Chris.

Not really any thing decent DH about for £1k new.. You'ed get a good all-mountain bike for that money though, Norco Six3 for example.
