what if you pranged the car and needed to reshell it - that would be slightly unfair.

An interesting thought if the damage is beyond repair, not like there is a T car as in F1, that the driver could just jump in.
Think the Blue Car has been rebuilt more than Steve Austin, off top of my head there was the fire at Castle Combe last year just before a TA round, that could of been much worse.

Having looked at the rules online it seems a little confusing. I understand the below to mean you could replace your car mid season but it must be with a similar car in the same division.
6.9 If a team/ owner wish to voluntarily retire or replace their original vehicle, after the original vehicle has already competed in a Redline Time Attack event, the team/owner has the right to do this. However, any points attained by the original vehicle, will only carry over to the replacement vehicle if the replacement vehicle competes in the same Division as the original vehicle.
6.10 Teams/Owners will only be permitted to voluntarily replace their vehicle once during the season and carry over the vehicle’s points. Teams/Owners will be allowed to voluntarily replace their vehicle more than once; however, they will only be able to carry over the vehicle’s points on the first vehicle change.

For the Pro series runners, If you have to replace the car for any reason, (car is written off, stolen, not ready to run, you want to promote a newly released model etc.) you are not allowed to transfer the points scored from the original car to the new one. It's the car that retains the points, not the entrant, you can use as many drivers as you wish.
For the Club series runners, you can use as many cars as you like, the points are retained by the driver, only the entered driver can score points under your entrant name.

75% of the parts and stuff developed for the "new" car can be fitted over time into the old car. The other stuff can be shoehorned in but it ain't gonna be pretty! I'm really dissapointed we can't show off the new car, but TOTB will be round soon enough and be the ideal platform to run the new car. By 2009 it will be well sorted.

Too bloody true!
Should have found another hobby years and years ago! Bet that would have been just as frustrating.
Now I know why people watch football on TV, so easy.
Can mere mortals like me geto the paddock at Donny for the TA? Is there a pit pass or similar?
Want to see you all race and support Pete Harriman.

Assuming the reverse is also true and 75% of the old car bits also fit the new car, wouldn't you be better doing a temporary 'sub optimum build' of the new car in order to even gain a handfull of points in race 1, this would allow you to have it built to the optimum spec for the remainder of the season ?

the other 25% relies on thirdparties and a lot of custom components being machined.

What I was suggesting was if you could have temporarily fitted the std subframes/uprights, links, suspension, cooling system and whatever on to the new car for just 1 event, it may have been less of a compromise than running the old car all year but no doubt thats been considered before now
