They are genuinely sorry if this may cause any inconvenience & hope you understand the reasons behind the decision, one of which was the attempt on the Guinness World record for the largest collection of a single marque in one location. If the decision is reversed then I will let you know ASAP. This should also help deter gatecrashers & make them easier to spot.

So if anyone asks if they can tag along in their Evo, RS or whatever please let them know to save any disappointment on the day.

Sorry I just don't get this, surely you don't need to drive a Subaru to
1. appreciate what a driver Colin was,
2. Want to show your respect to both him and his family.

I know the glory years were in a scoob, but he did drive for other manufacturers, Ford, Citreon, Skoda.

Personnally i agree with you Neil

I Think the reason that has been said is for the crack @ the Guinness World record for the largest collection of a single marque in one location.

I Maybe wrong

I am sorry but I am going to spit my dummy now & that don't happen often.

This exact same thing is being discussed on other forums & much time & energy is being , IMHO wasted , over arguing the toss over who, what & why.

Please accept this event for what it is.

A Subaru event organised by Subaru owners for Subaru owners to remember Colin.

If Ford,Citroen or Skoda want to organise an event then so be it. If the trillions of kids brought up on rally stages on Playstations want to organise an event on their BMX's good luck to them. But if any of them don't want Subarus to attend then again so be it.

It's horses for courses I am afraid. In this case the event has been organised with specific criteria & will only suit those that meet that criteria. Whatever it might be. This doesn't mean that no one else counts it just means that this particular event is not for them.

My keyboard is getting hot now with the pounding.

Please guys let's be positive & celebrate Colin's life & not end up bickering about "Well it could have been run this way or that way". A lot of thought has gone into this behind the scenes & input from Colin's family & Prodrive. All of which you should remember we are not aware of.

Just to add to that

The organisation of this has been carefully planned with detailled written proposals sent to Prodrive and Colins Family prior to announcements

Even the decision to host it on an independant website so that it didn't become an SIDC or Scoobynet event with other clubs attending cutting out the politics so that ALL SUBARU'S can attend.

If this was to be open to all cars the organisation would have been impossible and of course the World Record just wouldn't work

I hope that explains what THIS EVENT IS ABOUT

The official website for the 2008 McRae Gathering has now gone live at :-

Lots of stuff is being added as the build up to this major event takes place so please bookmark it & have a look from time to time to keep up with the latest developements.

Can you please take a couple of minutes to register your interest here (this is not a commitment to attend) :-

If joining en route, best place for you to join: M25 after M1

Stop Press News from the organisers

With regard to places for those joining the convoy, we plan on carrying out a dummy run in February. From that we will establish Motorway service areas where local Clubs can join en masse. More on that will follow once we’ve done the initial recce.

This is the proposed route subject to the recce in February.

Join the M74 shortly after Lanark, head right down that onto the M6 then head across country via the M61, M60 and M62 to join the M1 just south of Leeds.
From there it's straight down the M1 to the M25, round the M25 counter-clockwise then up the M40 to Banbury. Ignore the green Google Map pointers. They don't represent stop-off points or anything, they're just waypoints to get the route plotted correctly. Much more will come once the recce has been carried out next month.

Smile Latest news.

A meeting was held between organisers of the 2008 McRae Gathering and Prodrive in Banbury on Friday 1st February. They're limited in what they can say right now as there are still a few technicalities to iron out, but suffice to say it was a highly successful meeting. More on the outcome of the meeting will follow very soon, but there are some exciting possibilities being discussed...
On the sticker front, we have our first preview. This is the draft that has been produced. Note it's not the final product, but will give you an idea of what's to come...

Loads is going on behind the scenes

The final sticker design has been agreed and proofs are being produced for approval.

They are planning on clothing for this event. Negotiations/samples for that are underway

They are liaising with the relevant Police Forces / Local Authorities across the route as well as the local Residents Association in Banbury to alleviate any worries/concerns they may have and to reassure them this is NOT some "Cruise" or "Boy Racer" event, but instead a respectful tribute to a man who was a legend to many of us. Despite initial concerns by Thames Valley Police, they are pleased to advise they are now looking on this event favourably There are still a few issues to sort out, but having the local Police on side to help and advise them is always a good thing.

Any more for this memorable event?
