He fell prey to one of his own traps, the vial of blood was concealed by the puddle of water - you heard it break as he trod on it. The loss of consciousness was due to the bump on the head he sustained on the way up. You could see blood dripping from it. The duration of unconsciousness was convenient though

The vampire could smell the blood. He realeased the dogs, but didn't follow himself, as they can tolerate the light at dusk, the human infected couldn't. There was a paper clipping to this effect in the Kitchen of the house he explored.

Her car was equipped with UV light. She was there as she had responded to his AM broadcast; she'd be waiting there are day for him (she said so in a subsequent scene), but he didn't show at 12 as he was grieving.

She said that she'd waiting almost till dawn before returning to his house but was loathe to wait any longer as he was bleeding. Chances are they didn't attack as it was gtting light and they had to retreat.
