If you guys are saying a partial repair will be visible over time, how much time? Then i can include that saying if it's noticeable after X time then it will be done again.

There was also another bumper/damage/smart repair thread which i can't find, a similar time where i chatted with a smart repairer about this. If anyone can find it i'd appreciate posting the link so i can refresh my memory.

How does this letter sound?? And why use that "Without Prejudice" part??

Dear Sirs

WITHOUT PREJUDICE

REFERENCE: xx04 xxx – Black Impreza STi

When my wife came to collect my car from your garage following a service on 15th November 2007, you advised her that the car had been damaged whilst in your care thus necessitating repair.

Please be advised that I am unhappy with your proposal to effect only a partial respray of the rear bumper.

Therefore I reserve the right to inspect the repair and, if it is not completed to my full satisfaction, I will remove the car to a paint-shop of my choice where all costs to complete a satisfactory repair will be to your account.

I also would like to know how long the work is warranted for, as these types of repairs can become noticeable after time, which I hope is not the case.

You may therefore wish to reconsider and respray the whole bumper to ensure my complete satisfaction.

Yours faithfully

I also wanted to include something about a goodwill gesture, as it's a 60 mile round trip and they want the car the whole day. A major inconvenience really.

My PA (wife) is away, who would help here, watering things down, as i've got a tendancy to go straight for the jugular.

Comments appreciated.

As I said in my earlier post, this is a standard repair NOT a Smart repair and you should have no long term problems like with some smart repairs. If the finnish is acceptable to you take the car home and forget about it

this has just happened to me.

dealers have done 2 repairs now, both no good, so going in for a few days soon, for a proper repair.

Im not worried,as its going to be done properly now.

let them try if they want, but they 'should' get it right eventually!

Is it a big franchise or just a back street place? If its a franchise get in touch with head office, by-pass the actual garage....

I think garages should have the same forms you fill in when you hire a car - showing any existing dings or scratches/marks - that way they can't claim it was already there.

I know that's not quite what happened here as they have taken the blame and offered to fix it but it would help in cases where the garage deny it.

I think if they offer a full respray of the bumper and it looks the same as the rest of the car (paint can fade over time - very good paint shops can age it to match!) then I'd be happy.

Failing that a WR1 as a gesture of goodwill pls!

You know, that's a superb idea.

Maybe even photocopy one of theirs or similar hire cars and edit. Get them to lOOk over the car and sign it before you drop it off.
