What is so special about the new iPhone?
Typical scoobynet as usual..
I was one of the ones "thinking about" getting an iphone this weekend but after reading 2 pages of whinging and whining about I wasn't going to bother...
However...
My T3 mag subscription turned up today with a 64 page page
booklet full of frequently asked questions as well as the full spec and loads of other info of what it can and can't do.
Needless to say I'm not listening to you lot and am going to town to find out if they have sold out or not !!!

Just had a play...
typical apple geekyness,,,, no obvious back key and sod all in the way of detailed menu,s
no doubt there will be no method of deleting data off the phone

Just wait for the NANO type debacle, with scratched and broken screens
********************
Just watched one being sold, EEEEEEKKKKKKKK
HANG ON TO YOUR WALLETS
The method of sale is again unique (and in apples favour)
The phones are NON RETURNABLE!!!!!!
Now this was the bit that amazed me can someone confirm if this bit is true!!!
you pay for the phone to the retailer.... but!! the phone contract bit is handled by apple
So if your credit checked by apple and found to be NOK,, you have a £265 paperweight
oh and they wern't exactly rushing off the shelves, just saw an old bloke buying one for a friend....
made me laugh, one of the questions asked for the sale was......
marital status, he and the woman with him got a bit flustered at this bit LOL

It was gone midday when I got to the Cheltenham store..
I asked if they had any left..
"Hundreds" he said..
How many you sold then....
"about 40" he said
Couldn't believe they wouldn't take cash FFS.. that put me in somewhat of a position but a few phone calls later
I sorted that..
So far so good, all activated, slick as you like, integrates with gmail sweet as a nut, WiFi set up was a doddle.
Easy to text type on the qwerty keyboard, in fact I'd say it was as quick as predictive due to the layout. no miss hits yet either, one thing I was worried about with my pigs **** for fingers... but nope, all good.

Get GMail set up via IMAP, better by far. How-to: Proper Gmail IMAP for iPhone & Apple Mail
Interesting that you don't sign up for the O2 contract in the store, good news for using other operators I would think.

Wasnt one of the hooks apple got with the carrier , that a proportion of the data revenue went back to them.....
so it wont take long to work out that phones are being sold, with little revenue comming back from the data usage... what will they do then, start blocking imei numbers of the phones?? start charging your credit card in leu of data not used?
edit seems apple are allready aware of the "problem"

Looks like nobody's really interested:
Tumbleweeds outnumber punters, as iPhone's First Night flops | The Register
Looks like the British public actually has a fraction more common sense than I'd have credited them with after all. It's just a phone FFS.

Is it not the case that people couldnt be bothered to go out and get one at 6:02 thinking they would all be sold out?
I wouldnt mind one, but not enought to switch from Vodafone to O2
and at £35 per month there is no way im paying that !

I was in the Apple store regents street yesterday and they had hundreds left.
Guy infront of me, was not listening as someone tried to get him to buy 1, he pulls out an XDA and saiD " this cost me nothing and the contract cost me 1/2 of the one you want me to buy"
Next sales guy tries it with me, and I must admit he looked a little offended at my curt response "I don't see why I should pay for a handset, and that pointing at guys XDA, does everything yours does, but without the asthetics"
THink the lack of uptake has suprised Apple and O2

They market at the wrong audience...if it had some gold plated plastic, were called the "da iFone" and supplied with 2cents's back catalogue pre-installed on it. It would be a hit with the more widespread chavvy populous, problem is they don't have credit cards (well, not their own) and I doubt the DSS will provide a "da iFone" on invalidity benefit
