However . . .

I can understand people asking for mail and parcels that need to be signed for asking for them to be sent to their work address as it is a nightmare collecting stuff from carriers or the sorting office if you are not home when the items are first delivered.

In those circumstances, I would ask the boss for permission to use the company address for the delivery before I ordered the goods.

That way there should be trust on both sides that a] the package is not opened and b] the busines address is not being abused.

Otherwise, if anything through the company mail box or goods inwards gets opened by the company.

Many people work away from home for many months of the year. We operate a fleet of 65 ships worldwide and all of the employees receive mail at their place of work from time to time. This is expected and the company morally can be expected to help within the realms of reasonable cost. I have worked in Norway, Dubai , Azerbaijan and Singapore and in all cases my personal mail was sent to my office address. This is particularly relevant when the postal services require a confirmed address and will not deliver to your relevant home address in the country you are living in. It is also relevant for continuity when you are moved to a new post and the previous office can forward it.

Even when i worked in Aberdeen i had my mail sent to the office address as i didnt want it sent to my hotel in case i moved and when i got an apartment i didnt want it sent there for the same reason.

Therefore there can be reasons your personal mail is sent to your work address.

Many people have other reasons for having mail sent to their work address, I am sure Camilla wasnt writing to Prince Charles at Buck House

Wrong. I wrote the acceptable use policy at work and tried to include this but the lawyers made me pull it. Authorised personnel can only open work related mail. Anything that looks as though it may be personal can not be opened (although how the hell you're supposed to tell without opening it, I'll never know and therefore I may open some stuff just to check )
