if so, could you fill me in on some features i'll miss out on if i stick with the old style please?
#33
sorry.. should have read "is NOW the old style"
There are already features online in the new version, and there will be many more to come.
Basically we are investing heavily in new features and upgrades to ScoobyNet over the next 12 months, and each and every one will be installed into the new version.
In addition to this, certain things will simply stop in the old version. The "daily" featured scoobies have frozen, as the images are a different size now and will not fit on the old site.
The prize draws banners will be upgraded to fit the new site soon, and will therefore either break or not be visible in the old style.
The old style has been put there simply to pander to a few people who seem to just resist the change for some reason, but the VAST VAST majority of people will be using the new version.
-
To give you an idea. Out of the circa 4000 members who have logged on today, the grand total who are using the old style is :
16.
-
Just give it time. I can assure you, you'll prefer it in the long run.

I tend to respond in an appropriate manner, based on the question / remark.
As can be seen by the 3984 : 16 ratio, the new design can't be quite a "crap" as a few were blanketly labelling it. I know many people just like to whinge and whine.. as Shaun said last night "ROFL, if you sent this lot £20 each, there would still be the same few who would find a way to moan about it".
It just needed a) a bit of constructive criticism (which we're getting now, thank you), b) the understanding that its just the first draft and will be improved rapidly over the next few days, c) for people to give it a bit of time, because - as can be seen - people tend to prefer the newer side of the change once they're over the initial shock of the very fact it is "a change"

I have to say
I was one of the first to say please please do not have Avatars, but I have to say I do like these ones, and as long as these are the only kind of avatars we have (other car models too, as I reckon most of the community don't drive Scoobs anymore) and not the free for all that you can have on other sites
I know they can be turned off, but I quite like them

I agree.
Avatars are a problem for some people when they're just random odd images. These are specific to the site.
In terms of the majority of people don't drive subaru's..you'd be very surprised. The VAST majority of scoobynet members drive subaru's according to our data.

like I said, I'll explain fully in a week or so when I have more time.
I personally MUCH prefer the centered view. But there are fundamentals to consider unfortuantely.
PS. Do you remember you stern objections to the (now) previous version of scoobynet, hating the centered view and being quite annoyed about it?

Avatars with options! lol, you just gotta laugh at that! (but in a nice way).
Urgh! Gold wheels you lot, and you advertise the fact!
That reminds me, i must get my car photographed and on the 'view my Scooby' link.
I have some ace pictures of when i lost it on a traffic island and screwed my wheels up big time! lol. I even sarcastically 'captioned' them to send to my mates.

Simon,
I kinda like the new layout, it may take a little getting used to though.
Tell me how to turn the advert to the right off, please.
I read the starting post and nothing that has been in the flashing adverts has been of interest to me. TBH the constant ad flashing/changing gets on my nerves.
I can put up with the header ads, and the google ones at the bottom of pages, but these to the right, are in my humble opinion, not required by me.
Cheers, Micky.

Got to say not to keen,
its bad enough with the header screaming SN every time you load a page or change forum groups (makes for decidedly UN discrete browsing at work)
and now we have a targeted? add on the right? please no more!!
ive already got bets on that the screen will become centered, and banner adds will be on both sides
On the plus side, at least we have the option to turn it all off and go back to something we are familiar with
One thing puzzles me though, if SN is resource and bandwidth hungry, why not kill of some of the more less used or NVA areas (muppets springs to mind)
I appreciate that adds generate revenue, but can we opt out of adds, like the telephone preferance service? ??

Just gone back to the old layout, sometimes the simple things are best , good luck with the updates though

micky.
Please give them a chance. They're not working how we want them yet, and I happen to completely agree with you that they're not ideal as yet. But they will improve over the next few days when we get them sorted out.
There may be the odd advert in the mean time which annoys, but give us the benefit of the doubt to get it right over the next week or so, and I think you'll be happy.
Following that we're definitely offering an option for plus members to turn them off, and will probably give full members the option to turn that specific one off as well.

Thanks for your comments.
Each time you download a page, it costs scoobynet money. You looking at this page right now has just taken some money out of our bank account. Now, on the plus side, if you have a couple of adverts on the page you've just downloaded, we may make nothing from that page, we may break even on you, or we may even make a profit, depending on what was shown, etc.
You will indeed be able to opt out of the ads, but we would ask that you would upgrade to a paid service so we can offset the revenue we would lose by you not downloading the ads.
Basically, we have to earn money one way or another.. this is just a fact of life, unfortunately
