Help me Pick a Dog ?
, i have 3 now, 2 females and 1 male, aged 7years, 3 years and 16 months, i also have 2 children aged 9 and 5 and the Staffordhire Bull Terrier is renowned for their loyalty and affection towards children. "NANNY DOG" MY MALE IS AN ENTIRE STUD WHO IS ABSOLUTLY FINE WITH ALL OTHER BREEDS AND ANY SEX.. (SOCIALISED FROM DAY 1)Responsiable owner_ship.
But do alot of research on the dogs and their breeds, make sure you use a reputable breeder and make sure you see both the parents and make sure that you are happy with their temperment, socialise the pup from day 1, attend puppy classes and remember you are the boss. I personaly would not buy a dog from a rehoming centre if there is going to be children as you dont know the dogs back-ground. good luck and hope you find the perfect pooch.. P.S try looking on champdogs as there are lots of reputable breeders for all breeds on there. vickystaffworld have a nose its my site for my dogs and my friends

what do you want from a dog? What sort of lifestyle do you lead?
It's all very well saying 'get this dog, get that dog' but the dog needs to fit in with you as well as you getting on with the dog breeds common traits.
Do you want energetic, do you want a dog that'll prety much exercise itself?
Will you only ever have one dog or is this the first of many?
There are a lot of things to think about.
Paul.

I have been round many thousands of dogs through all the dog shows we attend and the most unpredictable dog around others bar none is the Staffy. I love dogs and respect all breeds but the one I have very little trust or time for is the Staffy. I do like Rotties though so I'm not one of those baby eater hater types.

Sorry it's not a load of Bull**** I have no problems with staffs or other bull breeds but as you yourself say they need to be socialised from day 1 Staffs are fantastic with people, children and I agree 100% - but they are not the best dog to dog breed around and yes yours may be fantastic with other dogs but in general you are the exception not the rule - as quoted from a couple of Staffy sites
Reputation for being good with children; often aggressive towards other animals
The Stafford has a colourful history and it is to be remembered that whilst they love people, they will react if challenged by another dog
Please don't take this the wrong way but all breed traits should be taken into consideration when recommending a dog to someone else
I have met loads of staffs in my training and they have all been great dogs but there haven't been many I could trust with other dogs
Before I start I think staffs are great dogs but as with most breeds you need to know your dogs

Can only speak as i find, but just got a jack-russell about a month ago, and its fantastic.
Got it from a rescue-centre, but now its become acquainted is very affectionate, but won't let anyone near the house unless we're with it, (it barks like a much bigger dog). Seems ok with other dogs, and is houd=se trained.
If I was you, I'd go and have a look around a few rescue centres, to see if it helps you.

got bitten of one when i was 9 and my sister had her ear ripped off by one when she was 11?
(different dogs, not ours)
Rubbish and a sweeping statement - as a professionally qualified dog trainer (BIPDT) and instructor at a number of dog training clubs GSDs are no more or less likely to bite than any other breed of dog - PROVIDING that they have been bred by a reputable breeder for temperament and are trained and socialised correctly
GSD's are often owned by people with no understanding of how to deal with them and this leads to agressive crazy dogs. Its the only dog I ever ever been attacked by and it has happend twice with seperate dogs, both family pets both known to me, both just turned for no discernable reason.
Many people I used to associate with have had deliberately violent aggressive dogs trained to intimidate and bite rotties/staffies ridgbacks etc. None of them has ever growled at me once they knew I was a welcome addition to the house.
what about a kerry blue terrier?...super all round dog, have a look at The Kerry Blue Terrier Foundation
you don't see many about these days as most people go for the fashionable breeds but the kerry is really worth a look.i allways promised myself one as a kid and since getting kerry's i can't recommend anything else. imho

I'm sorry, but Staffs look like Devil Dogs to me!
I'm sure there are a lot of good natured ones out there, but if you had to choose a dog for a tattooed f*ckwit in an England football top, that would be the dog you'd choose!

still think a chiuhuah is the best dog
you can put it in a shoebox when you get fed up of it
