Just spoken to Conrad Anderson again who apologised for the delay, but said that the stuff is still not in!

I will keep you posted when it actually turns up and I get a chance to fit it!

 

The kit has finally arrived and all looks good for fitting it at the weekend.

The only thing I am unsure of is the Speed signal wire. Conrad Anderson have told me that on a 2000 Impreza it is a Green and Yellow wire with a silver band on an 18 pin connector behind the instrument binnicle. It could still be the same wire on the '06 model but I would rather check first, does anyone know?

Thanks very much Slap Head, it seems like this *Should* be fairly easy to install. I will take my camera with me and make sure I document the install in case anyone is interested.

 

I have fitted the kit today, but there seems to be a wee problem. When I start the car, it is now idling at between 2K and 3K revs and the accelerator pedal seems to have no affect; which is far from ideal!

I called CA, but they were not sure what the problem was and said that they would have to call the supplier on Monday. For the meantime, I have just had to plug the original throttle cables back in.

The only other issue is that I now have the engine management warning light on...

It's working a treat!

It turns out that on their instruction, I have attached both the positive leads to the ingition switched side whe the pedal loom should not have been ignition switched. I will write up about the install and try to post if up here if anyone is interested.

I have been using the cruise for 9 or so months and it's great. I gave up on trying to fit the original Subaru Stalk in the steering wheel as this was just getting a bit complicated and so just have the buttons mounted on the dash where the Sat Nav was mounted.

I would certainly reccommend the kit; whilst it is a bit expensive; it is just great on long and dull motorway drives that I have to do. If you want any more info, please give me a shout.

I took the plunge and bought the Conrad Anderson kit, installed it this weekend on my 06 STI. Not cheap, £385 delivered for the kit. Took me quite a few hours as I was being careful to do a neat install, plus a lot of checking and double checking as I'm not a huge expert on these things! Anyway, this car is one of the easiest I've worked on for car electrics, lots of access and plenty of resources on SN and the web for wiring colours etc. Anyway, I'm waffling...

I got the Ap800 kit as the 06 STI has fly-by-wire throttle, plus the CM19 control stalk and all the rest of the stuff CA said I needed (note you don't need a clutch switch from CA as there is one on the car already, so should save you 15 quid on what i paid). My instructions came in Dutch but a look on the CA website, a careful look at the dutch diagrams and a phone call to CA to check a few points (very helpful they were too) and I was happy I had enough info.

I had intended to try to fit the OEM control stalk but gave up - I got some of the electronics guys who work for me to investigate the CM19 stalk (I'm a numpty at that sort of stuff!), when they took it apart it was far more complex than I had imagined, and far more so than the Subaru control stalk So the CM19 had to stay but it's far far too long and would look ridiculous. So the dremel and the hacksaw came out and I shortened it so that it now fits very neatly on the steering column

The rest of the gubbins fit in very neatly, there's a fair bit of space to the left of the fuse box so mounted the control boxes in there. A few handy tips on the wiring:
Brake wires - blue-yellow is permanent live, white-black is switched to live when brake pressed.
Clutch wires - yellow-red is live and switched off when pedal pressed (this is the one you want to use).
Speed signal - yellow-green wire located on small 2-pin connector behind stereo.

It then needs a quick set-up, the need for this was unclear but was told it was needed when i phoned CA. You need to use the same setup procedure as the Ap300 and Ap500 models, which is on the CA website.

And it works! Only done a quick test so far but it seems good. Will get a proper test next weekend, I usually do a 500 mile round-trip every other weekend so really really looking forward to it now

I didn 't like the SmartNav or whatever it was so I took the unit out and replaced it with the cruise control.

 

Okay, so it's a sad day, but my Spec D went back to the fleet company after my 3 years of ownership. I have taken the Cruise control out and wondered if anyone was interested in buying it from me?

It works a treat on motorway journeys and takes the worry out of getting busted by a camera van on a bridge somewhere...

The kit is like new and I have the box, instructions and my notes from when I did the install. I am also happy to give help over the phone or in person if you are fairly near Edinburgh.

I did have to cut the wire to the control module, but will be happy to solder this. You may however want to do this yourself so that you only have to make a small hole in the dash rather than a hole the size of the connector if that makes sense. This will make no difference to the kit other than making it easier to install. The alternative is to buy a new control module from Conrad Anderson if you wanted to, but there really is no need.

 

Someone must be interested in fitting cruise to their Impreza!

I have packaged it all up ready for sending and labelled all of the wires to try and make the install easier. I have included all of the info that came with it and some of the extra stuff that I found on the net.
