Received performance figures and placed my order on Focus RS

Are performance figures all you are worried about? If so, buy a Caterham or a Westfield.
What about all the other stuff, driver appeal, lateral grip, wet weather performance, residuals etc.

By the way, ford dealers are the pits (the ones that are left). I know, as I've had a series of fast fords.

EIL132,
As the Focus Cosworth ( when/if it arrives ) is expected to be around £10000 dearer than the Scoob it may be a little quicker.
But £10000 buys a lot of mods

I don't see anything wrong with buying the RS instead of the WRX MY'01 if you think the weather factor isn't an issue. It might not have the same road grip or handling capability in the dry (certainly not in the wet) as the WRX but at least it looks decent and will certainly have no problem out accelerating the WRX (WRX 158bhp/ton vs. 183bhp/ton for the RS).
As for 220bhp being too much for the front wheel drive RS, well apparently Colin McRae thinks that it can handle it. Quote: "Normally with front wheel drive and 200bhp you just smoke the tyres, but it pulled very well". Of course the guy won't say that he smoked the tyres every time he went out of a corner but he wouldn't say what he said if it wasn't true either.
And last but not least, it costs the same as the WRX or about the same.
Then again what do I know? I'm just a 20 yearold who's total driving experience is half a year. Ohh and the fastest car I've ridden in was 7.5 sec from 0-60 which I also drove. Pretty damn fast eh?
Note: The power to weight ratio for the RS is calculated using a weight of 1200kg which is the estimated weight mentioned in EVO, December issue. It'll probably weigh a little more though since the Focus Zetec weighs 1223kg.

LanCat ....downgrading from a Lotus to a Ford....well if I can have a car that gives me the performance thrills more of the time, and with more practicality.....
I've upgraded from a Subaru (Sti) to the Elise 111S, and although I love the image, the feedback, it's fast, a blast on dry twisty roads, etcetcetc reality is that it's just not as fast and as safe as the Scoob at high freeway speeds (which I do lots of), in the wet, etc. When you add to that the fact that it has no boot to speak of, it makes you deaf over 90, it's somewhat uncomfortable to get in out of, it has no back seat ..... I really miss the Scoob. And the RS seems to give same if not better performance than the scoob in the dry at least, better brakeslooksinterior than the MY01 (IMHO), and remedies all the Lotus shortfalls without giving away driver fun too much. Yes, I'll loose image perhaps, but I don't buy cars to pick-up or impress I buy them to enjoy driving them and the 111S just has too many little shortfalls for me to enjoy it 100%.
What would preserve image, have the performance fun but add practicality? Maybe a new M3 or 911, but they are too expensive. And I can always use my wifes BMW330 if I want to heve a more "classy" image then the Ford
