i'm a wee bit confused!!
i have the 97/98 ecu and key from the same car, i have the immobilser control module from a different 97/98 impreza
will this work? or do i need the 3 parts from the same car?
is the key coded to just the ecu? or is it coded to the control module?
need to get car up and running!

i wanted to do this too i loved the look of the Focus and the kit the WRC cars had on them. Looks awesome, even as a shell. Minty.

i got the engine running today!
haven't had it running for long! but it starts!
key doesn't seem to be needed its sitting in a box 6ft away from the car!! so that the immobiliser problem solved!!
now i need a few pieces
throttle cable bracket that fits on inlet maniflod
rubber pipe between intercooler and throttle body
and is there a black canister that sits on r/h inner wing that vacuum pipes go to? or what is it for that matter? is it needed??

That canister is the carbon canister for filtering any vented gasses...basically it's an emisions control measure...make of that what you will

in other words i won't need it!
i now have another problem! i got the car running with a bosch fuel inj pump! but iwant a pump that i know will be suitable! what pressure and flow does the standard impreza pump use? i have a cosworth pump, they'll fuel a cosworth up to 350bhp! do you think that'll be suitable?

That should be fine..

the Walbro pump fitted as an upgrade to most imprezas flows 255lph for reference.. the fuel pressure regulator sorts out the fuel pressure.. it is only the odd car that over powers the original fuel pressure regulator.. it is fairly obvious when it does that.. you could fit a walbro.. depends on tank you are using I guess.

what does the immobiliser kill fuel or spark?
when i pumbed up fuel lines i connected feed to return and return to feed could this have damaged fuel pressure reg?

Alright mate, its the imobilizer with out a doubt, you probably havn't got a matching transponder chip and chip reader (imobilizer unit). when my engine was still in the doner subaru it would start without the transponder key but only run for a couple of seconds.

Be careful, the import ECU will have maps for higher octane fuel, and possibly different engine components.

got my import ecu today!
cut out immobiliser wiring swaped three wires going to the ecu and she fired up and stayed running!
it was running like a bag of spanners popin and bangin
swaped the leads on the coil around and she was sound, my problem now is,
with the leads on this way the coilpack won't mount in it mounting postion, leads are to short! did the imports have different coilpacks/ firing order/ leads or anything else?

cheers mate!
managed to get rid of the pooin and bangin!
it runs spot on on idle, but it won't take throttle well, its like somethings cutting the engine, another thing i've noticed is the engine will only stall when i pull of number 1 lead, all others can be pulled of and she'll stay running tryed swapin them about but it just runs worse! Any ideas anyone?

i found the problem(i hope)
injectors in cylinders 1 and 2 are pulsing 0v-2v
injectors in cylinder 3 and 4 are pulsing 1v 2v
its not firing on 3 or 4 at all, has an excellent spark at the plugs
so an in the process checking for a shot, if that doesn't show up anything i think i might source another ecu!
anyone got a 97/98 version 3 import in working order?
