I see the bull**** has started. They all want excuses these days. Now blacks have problems because they have been born in post-slavery Britain.

I completely disagree, there is no more racism against black people thank there is discrimination against ginger people or bald headed people. A British born black has the same opportunity as any one else. I've met many blacks working as professionals and i've certainly never seen anything that would remotely resemble racist behaviour.
I'm not saying it doesn't occur, it's just that the people that do it these days would be the sort of people that would find anything to abuse someone over.
Lee Jasper is one of the biggest racists in this country and yet is an advisor to Ken Livingstone.

Even the older generations of blacks are disgusted by the behaviour of many in this current generation. But I don't believe for one minute slavery or racism is to blame for a lot of this gang related behaviour or the inability of many to pull themselves out of poverty and crime.

I heard one person describe slavery as the back holocaust over the weekend.
This happened 200 years ago.
The British were instrumental in bringing this to an end.
a lot of Africans where involved and made money selling slaves (usually captured or kidnapped) from other tribes.
I for one am not responsible ort feel any guilt for slavery and the UK’s involvement. I was not around 200 years ago!
Yes, slavery was wrong, and what happened in a lot of cases was terrible and inhumane. no doubt abut that.
It was 200 years ago. It is best remembered (so it does ot happen again) and left in the past where it belongs.
Should reparations be paid, no and I think this is just stirring up more opportunities for bad feelings on both sides. How could you work out just who this should be paid to anyway. Relations of the people who suffered, the now governments?
To recognise happened this and respect this is enough IMHO!
People need to look forward, blaming some sections of societies ill’s and problems is an easy way out of taking responsibility by those sections of the community.
There are a lot of problems and some parts of society should stop focusing on the past and start to look at now and the future!
My immediate boss (client services director) is a 50+ y/o Jamaican, he is one of the smartest nicest, creative and most trustworthy (and best dressed) people I know. He has two grown up children, both professionals. He started from nothing with working class parents but they came to work and be good people and contribute.
He has no hang ups about being black or uses this as an excuse, he is a self made man. At closer to 55 he grew up in an age of racism in the UK (that I do feel we do not have now) and he just got on with it.
Yes, I know that there is still racism in the UK and this is not helped by this government opening us up to anyone who wants to come to the UK for whatever reason. The answer is not to fulfil the stereotype that some racists have and get over it and get on with life and making something on yourself.
There are opportunities for people that want to work, want to try and want to get on and have the drive and ability to do so and I get sick and tired of hearing excuses as to why not!
We can all find excuses as to why things go wrong and why we do succeed, it is a shame some people do not put as much effort in trying to succeed.
Oh and before I get called a racist I judge people on what sort of person they are and how they act and not colour, race or religion.

The few cases of true racism/sexism/all of the other "I wanna be in a minority" (Copyright Greenday 
) are far outweighed buy the number of people who use their colour/sex/faith/whatever as an excuse for being lazy, inept, stupid, theives, violent and all the other less pleasent human traits. As a white, hetrosexual male - I do not have the advantage of being able to make excuses based upon my membership of a minority grouping.
As for the slave trade - no one asks who sold these people into slavery in the first place - most of the time it was the victorious black tribe next door. I don't feel sorry about it - the slave trade was a mechanism that allowed exploration and trade to become global. How many tens or hundreds of years would the advancement of the global economy have been retarded if there had been no slave trade?
In addition to that - "Blacks" might be upset about the slave trade from hundreds of years ago, but I suggest they be more upset about the slave trade and genocide that still exsists in Africa today.

- I would hereby like to enter my claim against the British Government for the considerable possessions that my relatives lost during the partition of India in 1947. Are there any shyster lawyers willing to lose erm. I mean, take on such a case?
