As discussed last night with Graham. I'd like to see a more 'true' roadgoing class that distinguishes from those that are more 'race' orientated. ie. interior trim, mot, 1a's (dare I say!) etc compared to more stripped out, slicks, etc.
Perhaps we should jointly suggest this? - just a thought.

The one to watch Gentlement is Faster Rob. That RA is friggin fast but have you seen the lead soles he wears?
I am serious about submitting a letter for a Road Class with a full definition of what that means.
My opening 'spec' is:
Any style of true production road car over 2000 cc.
1A tyres
MoT equiped, and taxed too (forces the MoT thing)
Full interior but not nessacerily the stock interior (Race seats ok)
4 point race harness and roll cage a must.
All suspension points/positions as stock and engine'box too.
Engine mods free. Transmission mods free, Brake mods free
Body mods free, glass windows.
Cars allowed on trailers.
To pick on Roger's AUDI, it would go into the Cii class with any production car on slicks/1B's.
ie If Roy wanted to run Kumho/slicks he goes into Cii (as I/Rob/Pete would if we wanted due to tyres)
ie If Roger Williams wanted to run his Morgan on 1A's he could enter Ci.
This would be a real battle as long as Tony Fletcher is running the Championship as he defines the classes I think, but if you don't try...

Brakes convert energy and this is done by friction and heat dissipation.
I would think 'AP' type brakes give great retatdation in the early bite of braking, but not sure if you need them on a 50 second hill climb.
Each to their own.
Bedding in pads/discs is easy when you don't trailer the car!!
If the class went 'MoT' status again (as it was upto 3 years ago) the only car outside of that is the V8 Audi.
I like driving my Sti on the road to and hoefully from the events, and would certainly like to see a Road Class again, with any car in that class (ie 911's and Sti's) and anything on slicks in Cii Class.

What was Rob's turbo again?
Pete: With 16'' rims I can't get your bells under, let alone the discs.
I think Loton will be a barrel of laughs, weather clear and 8 degC, so I think that will be 450 bhp at the wheels for Rob.
Why is Rob's torque relativly low for the bhp?

Been getting the other halfs Golf GT TDi ready today for a run up the hill !
Hope I haven't forgotten anything, timing strut, yellow tape on -ve battery lead, ignition 'off' arrow - anything else?

Again? I don't think I mentioned the turbo, but I don't know about rob. The torque is low because it's a relatively slow spooler. A little dissapointing for me as it's worked better on other cars, but with robs gears and driving I don't think it will be an issue.
A little more fettling and we have another 13hp

Martin: Richard is right, front numbers are MANDATORY now at Loton.
Small 'registration plate' size ones are good on the headlamp. Remember those on the doors! (and your license etc!!)
People dropping out like flies on sunday, so be ready for about 6 runs!!

Right, I'll sort some small numbers too.
Graham, if you recall I cancelled Sunday! - I thought risking the Golf on one day was enough!! - I'm under orders to drive "like an old giffer" especially as it's due a cam belt change.

Yep, I remember now Martin, started work at 5.00am today so a bit jaded..
I think you will be very surprised how good the car will be.
A Golf TDi raced last year and it surprised many in the class, infact: I think it won!
Weather on Sat looking cold but good.
Sunday a bit of a shower day. Just right for bhp and slicks.
We will see.

Had the car back to Zen for a few finishing touches this week picked it up and.....more power from out of the blue, Paul just can't seem to resist finding horses from nowhere!!
Engine sounds sweet as a nut now and ready for a hard seasons work.

That's 40 bhp more than me then, AND more than Pete and a 100 less than Roy, and 400? less than the V8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Working for yourself Graham, it's the only way, allows flexible hours (12-18hours/day) and time off whenever you feel like it (4-6 days per holiday per year). And of course everyone that's self employed is racking it in so they can afford to blow £20k on a car no trouble!

Graham, Paul is a legend and seems to be there whenever I need him to, which is usually post 6pm or Sundays.
Loton Park tommorrow for those of you who don't know it's 60 seconds of hillclimbing with 1 straight that is not straight at all!
I have had 1 visit there early in my racing 'career' and it wasn't a great one. Managed to off 3 times in 4 runs and drag a cone under the car from the first corner to the finish line. My quickest time of 61.63 was 4 seconds behind the front runners. The quickish times I had acheived at Prescott and Shelsley with ***** out early on throttle late braking were no use at Loton, a long and technical track, lines and experince seem to be the order of the day and I hope this weekend can act as a bit of a crash course to try and get nearer to the pace of the front runners as the first Midland event is at Loton on 8&9th of April. The extra power my car is running will steepen the learning curve and I am praying for dry weather.
After only 90ish seconds of driving in the RA since October last year, Saturday will be crucial to finding my feet with the new set up and I am really looking forward to it.
The Harriman contingent are all staying over near the event so a 'damage' report will be posted on Sunday night if I haven't drowned my sorrows too much!

Loton is a techie hill, and you can't see where you are going from one corner to the next.
There is nearly a mile of it, and I'm bound to say it as I'm so involved but it is my fav place. Two places scare me, but only because I've seen some nasties over the 14 years I've raced there.
The track will not be Curborough Green Rob and you have the right tyres on to.
Easy to go quick but also to keep well out of trouble!
We will all be better after a bacon buttie.
My first race in the Sti after all the fooling about with it.

Of course not open mate, it's hard to convey humorous banter in text unfortunatley.
You have to get into the orange settings but how far in depends on an understeer/traction trade off that only you can decide through trial and error, I find myself using stronger diff setting every time I drive but then come to a 90 right and the car goes straight on so it is a real trade off. One thing thats for certain is if you don't get up the diffs get ready for some tail happy action and bad braking. Oh DCCD what a joy.

Sorry to crash this thread, but some of you folks may be interested...
I've been trying to get together a Japanese Intermarque sprint series for a year or two, finally seem to have got it off the ground! It is based in the south of England and tied into the various regional championships.
The aim is to get imprezas, evos, skylines, GTiRs etc. etc. competing directly against each other, and encourage some of the track day guys to try their toe at competitive events.

Sprint: we have seen your thread!
The day has been a series of up's and downs and I came home on a trailer.
A half shaft sheared in my rear diff snapping clean in 2 like a carrot.
That's me for an early bath.
In the very true spirit of hillclimbing, Rob offered me a drive in his car tomorrow, but I would never forgive myself if anything went bang, but thank you Rob. A very generous gesture.
5 mins later a Club member offered his trailer, another offered to tow me home and we were away!
I have been offered a drive in my friends Smart Car hillclimber, and I really cannot resist the offer...I love 'em!
Just not sure if i can reach the peddles...
The use of slicks has probably done forthe half shaft, but god, do they ever grip.
My best time was in the low 59's, about 0.5 secs off my best last year on a cold but dry track.
I missed the best weather runs of the day which has cut short my dccd tweeking. Not at all sure about dccd and front plated diffs.
And the strength of Impreza rear drive shafts.
Hope API can find me another one.
