Just booked my car into Powerstation for the bump steer mod and to set up the geometry ready for the Epynt Hillclimb. I'm trying to be economical with what I spend money on, so suspension and handling are the key (though I'm going to invest in some better brake pads too). Learning how to drive it quickly might be an idea too

I did a "time attack" event in Japan two years ago. The starts can be pretty brutal on a clutch can't they! One start was sweet, the other resulted in lots of clutch burning smells and I thought I might have permanently lunched it. It seemed OK afterwards and the same clutch is still on it. I'll see what happens at Epynt If I get more seriously into hillclimbing then it'll cost money and a clutch upgrade might be one of the first things on the list. Life's a compromise, you never have enough time or money to do everything you want.

Graham, you won't have to worry about trees on Epynt. What few there are are well away from any danger zones.

Go back to # 283 above.

'Unofficially' would be a problem because it's an Army training area and they use it intensively for live firing exercises !

The road from Llywel (on the A40 to the west of Sennybridge) to Tiarabad is open to the public (although strictly the public does not have a right of access), so you can drive along there and get a feel for what Epynt has to offer. Don't go wandering off the "main" road though, it might cause us problems when trying to get future access to the ranges for motorsport.

I meant just to look at the area!
It say 'Dangerous' on my map....

Finally got the forms off the thread/site, bit of a game though.

Will Mod Prod be full of rally boys?

Default Shelsley Walsh - First Time Competitor Query

Graham and Rob

The confirmation of my entry at Shelsley for the 12th of May arrived on Saturday, and rather than turning up and not having a clue, iwonder if you can help with regard to the signing on procedure (different to Loton Park).

You sign on at 0800hrs, collect your scrutineering slip and then have to sign on for practice runs - is this correct?

Or do you sign on and sign for pratice at the same time?

On the final regs I am shown as car 20/Batch One for competition runs starting at 1400hrs.

I just don't want to look like a "new boy" (which of course I will be).

Shelsley is very different:
1
Signing on within the first 30 drivers in the queue!

Signing on this early means you can get a third practice run.
you need to there VERY early to do this, ie 6.00am to bag your place in the queue.
2
Normal sign-on:

Queue as ever with the rest at the hut in the Paddock.
Have license obviously with you
Sign on is as per Loton.
Return to car and bag/await a scrute.
Get scruted and then with your signed ticket go to the hut again.
Go to the REAR window and a lady there will ask you WHEN you would like to practice!
The sessions are booked roughly in 25 car batches and span across the day. About 16 batches.

you can choose any batch you like providing there is space.
Make a note of the batches, say 3 and 12 as it is easy to loose the plot over the day as there is no routine and nobody will chase you up!
To a degree you can change the batch number if there is space.

Third runs are called after everyone has done 2.

Personally i dislike the system, but sometimes it works well esp if you have a problem to overcome.

Good luck! Might come and see the white of your knuckles!!

Thank you Graham - clear as mud compared to Loton!

Had my new tyres fitted at BMTR on Saturday morning - felt superb on the trip home.

The 3 practice runs for the first 30 to sign on is for 2 day A meets, I have got 3 practice runs in at all of the B's I have competed in there no matter what time I signed on.

I'm jealous, Pete and dad are driving both days and I couldn't get in for one!

I hope it rains mwwwahahahaha!

That's odd!
Usually the lads doing the A's never get in at the B's (I was told that by Roger Thomas himself some years ago.
Prob though there were too many Impreza's Rob!

Could be a bit slippy at Prescott if its raining on our bald tyres....

Smile Shelsey Walsh

Had a drive Shelsley after work yesterday evening to have a look see.

Most sureal with nobody there and very very quiet - it is such a lovely setting.

New track surface looks fantastic!

All hillclimb tracks are spooky with nobody there, but I've done Shelsley some years ago on a sunday afternoon and you are dead right!

Smile Loton Park 20th May

Received the Final Regs today.

Must be quite rare to find one family having a class to themselves (Mick, Pete and Rob)!

Rob:
He said LOTON not Shelsley?
I'll look forward to the 20th even more now.
See you there in the 911, but not competing, so i can take some vids.

Martin: Must be done by now?

Pick mine up from API tomorrow and David has added a tweek of his own; hope it works.
Been very strange leaving the car there for so long, even feel relaxed now...bad sign as I'll be cruising at Prescott.
Hope the drive there on Sat will stirr things up a touch.

Do you think you can catch the Old One Rob/Pete?

Never known a family 'own' a class before, glad I didn't enter now.
Sadly at Barbon Manor when the clubbie Shelsley is o, but Barbon is a great great hill, short and fast with an evil finish.
Nearly took the class record there last year, missed by 0.3s, so i wonder if slicks and short ratio's will do it?

See most of you this weekend.

ps: Seen the Jap Intermarque sprint series thread?

Graham.

That sounds like a spooky chant repeated in flickering candlelight in the dark shaddows of a wood in Nothamptonshire...
Small problem of an AUDI to cast a spell on Paul!

If the AUDI falls to unreliability then I'll know you have a model of it and you are sticking spanners in it!

Otherwise predictable banter, and get it right: the records belong to Roger and Roy in case you hadn't noticed.

Graham.

Graham,

I don't think the Audi is uncatchable at all, unless someone makes it go round corners very soon. When time allows, Rob may bring a hint of blue to the white car class.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all at Prescott! I can only be there for the Sunday, so I hope you'll all still be around.

So do I! It's race day in the rain (?)
Paul;: I suggested you let him have a go in the 'blue' car ages ago.
I think the AUDI is catchable as it was not as fast as the SWB Dialynx car at Loton, but my car/me will certainly not be able to catch it. Blue car and Rob? Possibly, as the power to weight is about the same I guess.
Another pro-built car in the class!

My meek little Sti is back and running fab. Steers like I remember now and easy to handle. Great job by API as usual, and David pulled 2 surprises out of the bag too.
I'm not sure if there was one single stock Impreza there at all, and managed to put a face to a well known mapper at the same time.

Hope we can all use slicks on sunday.

Brit: make sure you come over. I know Dave Parr will bring you across to say hello.
My entry is in!
Not sure I like the idea of ditches, but I can always go slow!

Graham.

Nice part of the country Rob, you are lucky!
Beats Wolverhampton!
Do you think Roy will make it?
I should be on for a 5th or 4th if Roy doesn't show, but I hope he does.

Someones been whispering '2.35' in my ear....
You will be ballistic in Paul's car, but get the Nox removed, not just disconnected.

It is nice out here, I now have my own garage and workshop so can store the car were I live for the first time and hopefuly try and do some work on it myself. I can also sleep on the weekends without the booze heads waking me up all night like at my old town centre place, having said that I set my PB of 58.10 at Loton on practice day after 1 hours sleep due to neighbours having a party so maybe being knackered is the key to going quick!

The downside of having just moved is that my car remains untouched since curb' and looks like crap, so I have to clean it at the event or here before I set off which does not sound so appealing, maybe i'll leave it and say I'm going for the rally look.

I'm not to sure on Roy I haven't spoken to him since he left at curb', I don't know why he wouldn't be attending, maybe Sundays rain will put him off.

Prescott is my favourite track and I'm really looking forward to driving the car with it's new power & grip, looking to get into the 47's something I have never done there before with my PB being 48.15.

I will be interested to see how the big A4 gets on round the twisty track, and if it does struggle round the tighter stuff if the time it has made up in the first section is enough to stay ahead of Roy who's record of 46.35 is very quick indeed.

I'll stick a report on the practice days findings and hopefuly some vids tommorrow evening.
