Well guys I've done the deed. Placed deposit today on a used black M5! Feel guilty spending so much money, but you only live once and all that!
It'll be a few weeks until I can pick her up, I'll post pix then!

Well done mate, its a fantastic car. I've just come in from a 175 mile trip through deserted roads in Kent this evening in mine and I'm still beaming!

What's the spec etc?

Enjoy navigating the starship enterprise. Just hope the car never gets a virus, otherwise you might actaully have to do some driving yourself

Mate, when you are in a position to afford such cars do come back and comment, until then save your comments for your fellow van drivers...

Thanks guys.

Yes Merc going in as pex

Spec is;

Black with black leather(wanted Silverstone leather but have a 5 month old)
Full perforated Merino leather with active ventilation(? £5k option!)
M Multifunctional seats.
Chrome external detail(not too sure about this, a little bling)
Comfort glass( ie pimp tints!)
Electric rear blind
Has the Madeira walnut trim, which I really didn't want originally, but the rest of the car was right so accepted. Doesn't look too bad in an all black car
Extended voice control
Logic 7
Blue tooth prep

Standard spec is already high

Skittles, I've been studying the handbook this morning and its given me a headache. I'm hoping its not too bad to set up?

Nice spec. I think it is fully loaded. I too wanted a light trim but had to end up with black leather due to having a kid. If the walnut does your head in its not too expensive to switch to the brushed alu (its actually metal, which makes a nice change).

You'll be fine without reading the manual to set up! Idrive may take a couple of weeks to master but its intuitive thereafter. Just remember to slide and hold the idrive big button to shortcut to your last left position - it saves a lot of time. I actually like the set up options. Being one of the "playstation generation" I love being able to tweak things. Basically idrive lets you set up options the dealers used to have to do (e.g. auto locking, beep in lock etc). Setting up M-drive (M button) is dead easy: all options on maximum attack!! By the way when the dsc is set to MDM it lets the back end side a lot - can be unexpected at first!

lol, so only people with the money to afford such a car are allowed to comment...

Anyway you might want to check up on my background before making such comments. If I wanted to buy a 60 grand car, I could get one tomorrow

Please enlighten us on your 'background'.....

And you also fail to explain how you have come to drive the new S3, S8, and R32?....

If I sold off my shares and along with my savings I would actually. My business is going very well to allow me such luxuries that I currently do not actually want. Im concentrating on building my empire

As for me driving those vehicles, I am well connected in the VAG world

Priceless! :l ol1:

So, what I know of your background is:

1. You are loaded, building a business empire

2. You drive a Volvo S40 and a white Transit van. However you refuse to buy anything from the marque you love (out of choice, of course)

3. You have driven every Audi except the R8 so all of your statements are based on personal experience

4. You know insiders at Ford, BMW, Audi and Mercedes R&D/marketing who feed you top secret commercially sensitive information just so you can post it on Scoobynet.

5. You are also well connected at VAG. This is amazing: you have never owned one of their vehicles (not even a Skoda) but they bestow their latest and best on to you...

Anything else I can add?

Back on topic

Skittles, what kind of mpg you seeing? My C32 averages 16-17mpg around town and manages about 23mpg on a steady 80mph cruise. Will it be much worse than this?

Have you got the extended voice control? If so, does it actually work?

I'm so bloody excited about this car! I'm defo going to invest in a speed detector, this thing is fast.

Hello mate, cruising at 80 returns c. early-mid 20s. London driving gives something in the mid teens. Heavy traffic gives c. 10mpg. All with "power" pressed of course!

On average, with part spirited, part normal, part town, part motorway I get c. 18-19mpg.

If you are pushing you won't see much more than 200 miles from a tank of fuel, but this can go up to 300-350 for careful motorway driving. TBH the fuel tank size (70l) is the weak point of the M5.

On voice control: No I haven't got this but I have heard it is worthwhile - would be interested to hear what you make of it.

On the speed camera detector, try Driver Systems - 5 star quality install.

To whet your appetite further:

What do you expect from a 22 year old, who thinks he's loaded, owns an empire and dreams of Audi's? If you were down the pub, you'd see him for what he is - a childish geek, who trys to curry favour with his peers by bragging - you'd walk away. Unfortunately, he's rather more persistent on here.

Back to the OP - what a great purchase - I'm jealous! I do have a soft spot for Beemers. I've been on the list for the new E92 M3 Coupe for what seems like an eternity now. A second hand M5 might be a better buy, if only they'd depreciate a little more!

Ahhhhh, advice on life from a 22 year old.

Does your pearl of wisdom extend to the investment banker who just netted a £100 million bonus?

I think the new M3 will be awesome mate. I'm not a natural BMW fan btw. If I didn't need 4doors/big boot I would have waited for the M3 myself. The concept pix look fab and they will have benchmarked the RS4 to ( I assume) make sure that its beaten on all fronts.
I sat in the new 3 series coupe at the showroom and its a really nice place to be, the quality of the interior is fantastic. Add that to 400+ BHP and its going to be a nice package

Well done Deep - about time you bought a car instead of test driving them

Really pondered on the M5 long and hard - its so practical......

Currently hankering after an X50 996TT - test drive last weekend sort of clinched it

Post some piccies if you can

Quick Reply: M5 test drive!
