I've got it running on 4 machines at work, and on my home pc, and it's rock solid on them all. It certainly is not cack.
Sounds like whatever NIC you are using is not supported by the isv/ihv yet. Which one are you using (is it not onboard the mobo)? If you have an nforce board, have you tried downloading the nforce forceware drivers as well as the gfx drivers?
It's the drivers that are a step backwards, not the OS
I did read the article, and it supports what I said. They were running preview dx10 code, with flaky beta graphics drivers. I'm not at all surprised they ran into problems.
I'm running reasonably current hardware...
Asus A8N-SLI deluxe motherboard (with the nvidia nforce 4 chipset)
AMD 4800+ cpu
2gb ram
1TB HD space
Nvidia 8800GTX 768mb graphics card
Xifi xtreme music soundcard
It all runs fine. It's very early days for the new OS, and the ihvs are still wiritng drivers for stuff, so it's entirely possible that it won't run smoothly on every system. I wouldn't expect anything else, although the beta / rc builds have been around for so long that I'd have expected the manufacturers to have at least functional drivers available (even if they're not optimised for speed yet).
but just now I got a tcpip.sys bsod whilst surfing the web. This would suggest a problem with the nic and/or drivers, which is bs. As the NIC is brand new, and has not had a single issue under XP
OS seems to be a step backwards from XP to me, purely down to flakey and/or lack of drivers as far as I can tell.

And if u read the article they were running a preview of a dx10 game.

My D-link nic IS supported, it has the specific drivers for the exact model included in Vista. My onboard nic is disabled in the bios as it failed ages ago.
nForce3 is not supported in vista by nvidia, so no drivers
However
From the start I've had a bluesoleil bluetooth dongle in one of the USB ports, no app installed, and it seems to be detected fine, but I've read that they will cause bsods in Vista! lol. So it's been unplugged, we will see..... again
Strangely as well when I unplug it, my CPU idle temp dropped 2 degrees and I could replicate the temp increase when plugging it back in :s

Fair enough. I still say there's nothing wrong with the OS, (as I said it's been rock solid for me). Sounds as though you've got a bit of hardware somewhere for which the drivers are less than reliable. If I were you, I'd wait a few months and try again

Possibly. You could try stripping it down to the bare bones and put each piece in bit by bit (until you find what's causing the crash). Long winded, but it usually works...
Hello
I know replied earlier in the thread, but I have to say I really like Vista. It has been stable, has improved security and just 'feels' nicer to use. It is worth £100+ to upgrade? Not so sure about that. But I'm happy with it (and I actually bought it, which is the first for a long, long time!).

I've got a vista machine at work which has been turned on constantly since the day I installed it (before xmas). It's used for development work when I'm in the office, and as a file server (over vpn) when I'm not. I've not had a single hang or crash, so that seems stable enough to me.
Like Iain mine is a server, acessed remotely from work as a resource, so it's always on. As well as being my home/gaming/media box. I usually rack up 4 weeks or more in XP. No way in Vista yet :/
My home PC is used for work 8 (well nearly) hours a day, gaming at night and hasn't been switched off apart from a few reboots after driver installations and such like since I installed it nearly 2 weeks or so ago.
The only problems I've had so far with my brand new Vista Ultimate laptop were the sound card not working properly, and occasional video card crashes while playing games.
Both were due to the basic 'get it up and running' drivers so I could have my laptop on Vista consumer release day. Since then the drivers have been updated and I have to say it's been pretty good and there are no problems now.
Touch wood of course.
Better than XP? Hard to say atm, it looks nicer but I haven't seen any screamingly obvious advantages yet.
