2000wrx: Out of interest, when you reported the car stolen, did you asked that in the event of the car being found you wanted it to be recovered?? If not, the Police will not automatically get it lifted. By you asking for it to be recovered, you would have been looking at a bill of at least £150 plus any further storage costs. Obviously you could claim this back via your insurance company, but I hazard a guess that you're liable for the first £150/£200.
By you collecting your own car (all be it at 0230 am), you have saved yourself quite a bit of cash.
Very rarely will house to house enquries will be made when a stolen car is found unless the vehicle has been used in a further crime (robbery, murder etc..). I understand it's a PITA, but thats the way it goes I'm afraid. With the amount of cars stolen in London, there'd be little else they'd have time for.
Like everyone else, I would like to know who spotted the car. It's lucky that a car stolen in Leigh was seen parked at the side of the road in Romford
