Review time
Went up to Scoobyclinic to help out finishing the car off on Friday morning, got the suspension all swapped over then came to put the wheels on, first problem, the offset was wrong and the insdie of the tyres were rubbing on the springs
so out came the spacers to rectify the problem, only to cause another one with not having long enough studs, bugger
luckily Neil Wrenn came to the rescue as he had 10 new longer studs with him, livesaver or what?!
so we proceeded with taking the rear hubs apart to replace the studs, time consuming job which took a good few hours, then came the AP 6 pots up front, they went on without a hitch but we didn't have any new pads to go witht he new discs so had to stick on the old discs and pads, not ideal and they did hinder us a bit on track as they juddered alot under braking. Geometry was then next on the list, dialed in 2 degrees into the rears witha smidge of toe out, front got 3 degrees and equal amount of castor and dead straight toe. by this time it was getting late and the only thing left to do was the remap for the new headers & uppipe we'd fitted to try and make the engine a bit more competitive, but it wasn't to be, 9pm had crept up on us and it was time to get the car home ready for Saturday.
To be continued...

It's Saturday and an early start for the 8am briefing, the car turns up and we have our first session of the day, morning warm up, it's the first time i've driven the car since last September and first time on track since this time last year
i set the suspension dead in the middle of the 40 way settings and hope for the best, new tyres too so they've not had a heat cycle in them. Session goes ok, the new suspensions is excellent, even with guess work settings, it's soon apparent that my lack of power is going to be a problem as i'm losing car lengths down the straights to everyone. Session 2 starts and we get timings this time, i go out with a small tweek to the suspension and leave everything else the same, i put in 10 laps or so just trying to get a feel for the tyres and what pressures we need to run to get the best out of them, after about 5-6 laps the tyres are starting to slide quite badly but i just stick for the remaining few minutes instead of coming in, check the tyres pressures and we're a bit out at 40PSI so drop them to 30 hot.
It's at this point i notice that the rev counter has packed up, more investigation shows that the AVC-R has packed up and is back feeding the ECU so it turns out i've had no boost control all day
we managed to set a constant duty cycle into the AVC-R and go out for the final session of the day, tyres are better and feel like i've got a bit more power and the times are coming down, now into the low 1.24s.We decide to try a remap on the road in the evening to see if we can get a bit more spool up with the new headers and sort a boost setting that can work with the AVC-R playing up, i'm told the car feels loads better on the road and go to bed happy that we should go better tomorrow....

Get my pictures up
Sunday and morning warm up is first on the agenda, the mapping Pat did last night has made the car alot better and is what i need to get the car a bit further up the standings, the time drops to a high 1.23 so we're going in the right direction, but i'm setting my times when the tyres are past their best, there's easily another second or so we can knock off that
Final qualifying is upon us, and i'm last in the queue hoping to get some clean track by hanging back and use the tyres while they're still fresh, i put in a 1.22.8 but it's still quite a way into the session. The Dunlops are lasting about 5-6 laps then starting to go off big time, to the point where i've got no grip in the corners whatsoever!
The final is upon us and i've qualified 4th, i've checked the split times and it's not 4th on merit, i know others can go quicker so i've got to up my game, i leave the pits and treat my out lap as my flying lap, trying to get myself into the zone straight away, straigth away i don't feel like the tyres have recovered from the last session and are slipping too much for a first lap, and i end up on the grass exiting the esses stating my flying lap, not a good start
hit my braking point into redgate perfectly but struggle with getting 4th, hit the apex and on with the power into hollywood, car's still feeling a little understeery for a 2nd lap for my liking, through craners and it's 2 wheels on the grass through the left hander to get the best line and brake into the old hairpin, again running wider than normal but it's not feeling like a bad lap, mcleans is taken without a hitch as is coppice, it's down to the breaking at the esses, i take it a bit easier than i'd like remembering the last lap through there and it's down the home straight and we're done. I'm happy with the lap, but was it good enough?
Back into the pitlane (we'll brush over the spin i had on the slowing down lap trying to power slide out of mcleans on the grass
) and i'm told im in 2nd with a 1.21.8, i park up and watch the last group of 5 go through, only to find it contains the top 3 in qualifying going round, doh!
the inevitable happens and they all go faster than me, but only by a second, apart from Ron, who aces his lap with a low 1.19
1 - Ron Kiddell R32 GTR 560bhp 1:19.140
2 - Samuel Kerr Impreza P1 500bhp 1:20.666
3 - Kevin Atkins Evo 6 600bhp (had to run low boost for final so closer to 3-400bhp) 1:20.802
4 - George Beavers R32 GTR 600bhp 1:20.928
5 - Kevin Horsley Impreza 340bhp 1:21.852
6 - Mike Payne Impreza 380bhp 1:23.138
7 - Oliver Crawford Civic 600bhp 1:23.322
8 - Kevin Duckworth 200SX 370bhp 1:23.482
9 - Neil McLean Evo 6 350bhp 1:23.795
10 - Joe Luckett Impreza 450bhp 1:23.980
