Has Shilpa on BB been subjected to racial abuse ?
#211
Does anyone else not think it is not only bad manners but unhealthy to touch other peoples food (cooked or not)! don't get me wrong she seems absolutly lovely and i think i personally would have alot of time for her but having been thrown from being waited on hand and foot she is 'having a go' at normal tasks but she seems to be ignorant of sound advice i think this is partly why the other girls are bickering with her (also i don't think the eviction of jades mother help with regards to her).
I think people always call it racism because she is the only indian in there! hyperthetically would the same happen i wonder if a non-indian person was being 'harassed' in an indian version of the show? (i very much doubt it)

It's very easy to play the inverse-snobbery card, hence Jade manageing it. It's also very easy to play the racism card, but Shilpa hasn't (yet), so good on her.
I like Jade's 'I'm not bovvered' line, having shouted and whined for half an hour.
Shilpa should know better by now not to start a row, but ganging up on her like 14 year olds in the playground is unaccaptable.

She also saying "This is what England's like" based on three scumbags she voluteered to spend some time with.
She looks nice but at the end of the day is a whingeing Indian Snob.

I am not quite understanding the comment with regards to going to India and reading up on culture etc.
As far as I am aware, Shilpa has not broken any "laws". And she is effectively here on holiday, albeit a paid one - She was born, brought up, and lives in India. She is going to act and behave as she does, she isn't going to stop eating with her fingers for 3 weeks just to please some idiot who thinks it's not hygenic. Why should she adjust her behaviour because she in this country for a few weeks?

Effectively what the liberals are saying is that you are not allowed to dislike an indian..... if you are white.
Why do the housemates not tell her that they don't dislike her because she is indian, they dislike her because she is an annoying cow then they can put the matter to rest.
That said, the fact that she assumes the white people are racists because they dislike her is in itself racist. If they had been 3 indians bitching at her she wouldn't have made the same remarks.
Racist bitch.

And all this show has done is send a terrible message to Jade wannabees that this kind of aggressive, ignorant behaviour is not just tolerable, but funny.
I thought it was deplorable and very uncomfortable viewing. I also think Jade, like her mother, has mental issues, and so should not be on the show in the first place.

From the *very* few bits I've seen it's a case of the ugly trolls in the house sniping at Shilpas 'cos she's a lot better looking than them. And she can string a sentence together - in 6 languages apparently! Seems like simple jealousy to me .... but then I'm not an avid watcher (try to turn over quickly if BB is on!) and I haven't read all of this thread - for much the same reason ..

(i)there is nothign to suggest it would be any more hygenic if someone poked at it with a fork
(ii)Agree on the culture clash, there are obviously cutural differences, eating food with fingers is common place in India. That doesn't mean its any better or worse, its just different to what we are used to.
I see no reason at all why Shilpa should suddenly start eating with a knife and fork "at home" just because she is in England.
Having said all this, I am going from heresay, I have not watched a single second of CBB. So for all I know she could of shat on her hands and then rubbed it in Jades face.

I did hear a snippet on the radio this morning with Jade throwing a wobbly (literally) because Shilpa told her she needed elecution lessons.
Which to be fair, she could do with.

Hell does it really matter if you put your finger in the food? I'm going to touch your plate with the same finger, i'm going to give you a glass of wine using the same hand.
Some people are just overly picky.
Next you will say you dont eat peanuts left on the bar in a pub
Shilpa seems like a nice lady to me as davyboy says. It could be worse they could be living with a Yak hearder - and no i'm not talking about Jade

Fair enough - but If I'm settling down to a nice curry and the waiter comes over and pokes my curry with his hand - he's getting a "wtf are you doing cnutface" - and it wouldn't be because of the colour of his skin

18 January 2007 - Ofcom are currently receiving very high volumes of complaints alleging racism in Celebrity Big Brother 7. Visitors may experience delays or intermittent problems when trying to submit complaints.
They even have a dedicated link on the main page:
Celebrity Big Brother 2007, Channel 4 and E4 | Ofcom

Come to think of it if they are watching it in the first place, they obviously haven't got anything better to do.

TO be fair, of course a restuarant situation is an entirely different proposition. However, for all intents and purposes BB is a "Home" situation, and Shipla was doing no different, I would suggest, than she would at home.

Some good points being made here. Yes i agree Jade is rude and uses words she not only doesn't know the meaning of but also how to pronounce them.
Pete anyone sticking their fingers in anyone elses food may be acceptable in India but here it is pretty much the height of rudeness. We are in england, and as the saying goes "When in Rome do as the Romans do". From the conversation Jo had about this it would appear Shilpa does this on a regular basis, not just to Jo's food. This shows the usual tolerance the British usually have towards different lifestyles, if only it was returned.
Lets be honest, these people have signed up to raise their public profile in this country. To be ignorant enough not to show any interest in this countries mannerism's and what we deem acceptable and unacceptable behaviour shows the lack of respect she actually has for this country. I dare say 99% of people would be really offended if someone picked something from their plate, especially without asking beforehand.
Shilpa has entered BB to win over the hearts of the British people, but she is so arrogant to think she can do this without first learning about us and what we would consider an act of rudeness.
Oh and if looks were the issue I'm sure most people would agree Danielle is the best looking in there, not to my tastes but quite obviously the best looking.
