You can get the Maguires kit. You get the shampoo, polish, glass cleaner, mit and wax applicator. Think it costs around £30 - £35. Well worth the investment - you also get a bag FREE with it 
You will need two buckets, one with the shampoo and the other with warm water in. You rinse the mit off in the bucket with warm water before putting it in the shampoo!
I really rate it.

So are these different polishes though (hence "TEch Wax"). And which is better - anybody used both these Maguiars products ?

I wash mine with this stuff.
I wash it with two of those halfords wash mits (kind of like the lambswool thingy), one for the top half of the body, one for the bottom half. I also use the the two bucket method as previously mentioed. I then dry it with the meguiars water magnet towel.
Then I use Mequiars nxt tech wax using a microfibre polishing cloth and buffing mit, also from halfords. You havn't got to spemd mega money to have a clean car!

ended up polishing her, did everything, body, wheels, trims, windows... wow. that meguairs stuff does the trick. shame its not brighter, but i got admiring looks when i went to pick the mrs up from work. might try the two bucket method next. i did use a mitt to wash and buff off though, and the supplied meguiars one to put the polish on with..

You`ll only learn from this thread Andy. I started off with the Meguiars wash kit, now its grown a lot 
The only thing I recommend you buy is a Clay Bar & Quik Detailer. You`ll be amazed with how smooth your paint is after it.

What does the Maguiars "Clay" do and is it worthwhile. I skipped on that because I didn't fancy unnecessary elbow work. Might do it if it's worth the xtra time though ?

A clay is like a lump of Blu-Tak which you draw over the surface using a lubricant to help it glide. Washing with soft mitts may not remove bonded on contaminents such as tar and tree sap, but a clay will pick them off gently causing no damage. Worth doing once a year or so.
This was used on one panel on my freshly washed car. The blue is from touch-up pen used on stone chips, the rest is tar, sap and other stuck on crap.

Chemical Guys Cherry Wet Wax is what I have.
Also get yourself a grit gard bucket a lambs wool wash mitt and some quality buffing micro fibres as a minimum.
That Megs spray wax is ok but you can do better. the liquid version is easier to use and gets better results. To avoid inflicting swirls use some megs or chemical guys quick detailer spritzed on your buffing micro fibre when removing the wax. I also found the Micro fibre wax applicators better than the foam jobs. Plenty of opinions and examples of work on detailing world
