450bhp track based target
Bloody hell - where have you come from???
I remember meeting you at a RR day I organised at Power Engineering back in 2004 and you were severely disappointed with your 470bhp or whatever it was kicking out - so much so you were on the phone to Bob Rawle and after getting up to G-Force to get another RR test.
Steve isn't it, IIRC?
Do you still have a high power Scooby or have you left the fold?
Cheers
Terry
Hi Terry thats me.......
Hardly do any miles, dont really have any time as I'm hardly ever in the country these days - doing a lot of work out in Moscow and Kiev (hugely growing Russia and Ukraine) Media areas.... but I also do a lot of travelling around Europe - am in Stockholm next week............
Sure I was pretty miffed as I suspect that the engine went on their rollers......... Cylinder heads had cracked on the 5th gear run - this was confirmed on my run at G Force, but I pretty much knew it by then as I was losing coolant
I changed the engine at API....... and got the Turbo checked as that wasnt working correctly........
I'm back more in the country this summer, so will be looking at some track days - just got Paul at Zen to put in the PPG Synchro kit to replace my sti5 Gearbox, which went at Brands Hatch last month. Also just changed the standard suspenion (well, with a few tweaks ;-)...........) to the Exe-tc kit at Zen, and the exhaust mid and rear system as the HKS Hiper I had was too noisy for most tracks (the wife tested the suspenion out on a fairly hard setting and said, I quote ''its very compliant, you can just chuck it into bends at 120mph''................)
I'm going back there (to Zen) (I need to get the suspension hubs changed - another common affliction on Scoobs, with the hubs wearing and causing all sorts of braking issues/noises on lock which is commonly mis-diagnosed as CV joints or bearing issues - bully) so I can put in adjustable top mounts for the suspension so it can run -2.5 camber front and about -1.5 rear (it has the camber bolts but theres a limit to camber you can get even with these)
My car is running a bit more power than the PE rolling road day....... as its running a fair bit of Methanol (on top of the Obligatory 1 Bottle of NF each fill up) plus its had Methanol/water injection mix for a few years
Depends which Rolling road you go on but I would say its about 500bhp and about 430lbs...... circa........(this is G Force type power, you can add 100 to the numbers for some rollers
) If I used race fuel it would have a lot more than this, but I want mine to be a more of a practical car........and 500bhp is a fairly comfortable and reliable power level, which I can live with (well at least for the summer) and is ok on track (well nothing comes close on the straights at most tracks - even an Ultima GTR was pretty surprised at Brands when he couldnt get past me)
If I could go back in time I'd have a larger capacity engine and a slightly bigger turbo to push out to the 600bhp......... then again I'm going to change the wife's car soon........ and fancy using the new Evo 10 as a base........ my wife has already stated she wants the car to have more power than the sti5 (good having wives who have the same goals..........)
and if you've seen the new Scooby in Evo this month, you'll see that no-one with sense will be purchasing the new 'Rover' styled car......it looks bloody awful and embarassing

Good to hear from you Steve
We have a SIDC trackday at Silverstone on 27th August (bank holiday Monday) if you're interested - it is the Southern circuit and cost is circa £149.
I've just had the Exe-tc suspension fitted too along with PPG straight-cut dog engagement box - very nice from a race perspective
- not so nice on the road

Next on the cards is a 2.35l CDB engine - that's already started, and with a suitable turbo, fuelling and who knows what else (NOS?) then I should have a highlt competitive car in the Time Attack - as the fastest in the Club Challenge are running circa 650/700bhp on race fuel
Car hardly gets used anymore. Next event is the Nurburgring on 13-15 July and then Knockhill Time Attack on 28 July - I'll drive to the Ring, but trailer it to Knockhill
Then the TA final at Brands Hatch on 2nd Spetember
What noise do the hubs make out of interest on lock?
Keep in touch mate - I get involved with organising lots of trackdays - we have a noisy day at Goodwood on 24h November too.
Cheers
Terry

Surrey RR is a fantastic place too - the operator Charlie is a top bloke and the best thing is they don't do anything other than RR time - ie no tuning or aftermarket services, etc - just an honest RR service that is used by someof the best mappers out there
27th August - how many people are going to this - i.e. is there much track time?
Suspension I have is the road version, not full competition so its ok on one of the softer of the 40'click settings.
I cant imagine what the dog version of the PPG is like, the Synchro one is acceptable, as my old gearbox wasnt much quieter anyway....... Hopefully the Synchro Box will be comfortable for some time - plus I still have a decent stereo system so want to hear this when driving......... Exhaust I have now makes hardly any noise at all.............
Its not the hubs that make the noise, its the fact of the bearing movement which means a lot of flexing of the disc in the calipers and hence a lot of flex onto the edges of the brakes - the sound is a very loud grinding/clicking noise and very very disturbing......
Who are you getting top do the CDB - how much will this cost roughly and what are you doing with the 'old engine'?
I wonder what I could get for my old 2 liter engine, with Omega pistons, Arrow Rods, etc - is there much of a 2nd hand market?.......... I do tend to procrastimate A LOT so am very likely to keep 'as is' - 500bhp or thereabouts is fine for a normallish A to B car..... If was seriously looking to take soley on track then sure another 100-200bhp would be the goal....... as you do tend to get those Pesky caterhams buzzing around, not to mention the odd Porsche GT Cup at Brands (no comparison at all to the relatively tame GT3RS
)

Silverstone on 27th is what we call a triple club day - exclusive to members of SIDC, MLR & GTROC. It is an open pitlane day and so there will be plenty of track time available.
I have sold my current engine, which will go once I have fitted the new one - probably in August. Components for the build from Mark at Lateral Performance and the build will be completed by Len at Subaru 4 You in Newbury.
The total cost for the engine and components will be circa £4k - plus then I will need to upgrade the turbo (to rotated) and some other bits and pieces - there is a good £6k going to go into it from here
There is a good 2nd hand market for a good "built" 2 litre - so that people can run good turbos - MD321H or T at 2 bar boost safely and get fantastic performance.

Re Silverstone - I'm not a member of any clubs like SIDC so I guess I'm not really welcome?
Hmm - thats a fairly cheap upgrade..... less the cost of the engine? which means very cheap indeed - are you fitting the engine yourself at that price?

Well maybe I didn't estimate all costs exactly
If you want a plave on the trackday then you will have to become a member of SIDC - which is only £35 a year, and it gets you into and indeed cheaper entry to trackdays that the club organises
Well worth it in my opinion

cool...hope i can get mine that high one day...how much extra did you get using the nice fuel over shell or whatever?
I got 420 on vpower with 400lbft but want more, maybe cold air induction or better intercooler needed as im running about 1.8bar to get that
