Future proofing - what you gonna do - Sell you house to the Polish Immigrants for the whole of 2009 !

I'd go for 5 Bedrooms cut down on all the bathrooms - maybo go for jack & Jill type for adjoining bedrooms ?. More Area for Living - maybe games room with room for full size snooker table etc ? Sauna / Steam / Spa area for the girls !

At 8000 sq ft, I do feel that is large for 5 beds, most would convert that into 2 large 5 bed houses - but then you'd have a neighbour. Bear in mind a typical 3 bed detached house (like the one we recently moved out of albeit with only 2 reception rooms and no utility) is about 1000 sq ft typically. We were buying 3700 sq ft 5 bed and the main bedroom was half the floor area of the entire 3 bed house we were leaving, but it fell through. I'm glad it did because the 3000 sq ft in the rented place is still far too big at least for a couple. Rooms don't get used. It seemed about right for the owner with 3 kids.

John,

I dont want any neighbours that why i bought the two derelict properties that were on the same private road.

As for the size, i agree most of the house wont get used but there is going to be a few luxuries with it.

Main part of the house is just being made watertight at the moment, the adjoining barns have had walls moved & are still being repaired on the face side, these parts wont be ready i reckon for at least another 18 months owing to funds.

The square footage is when the complete lot will be finished. Its going to be massive ........ but it'll look good

I would agree about garage space for a house that size. A double is often trick to get two cars in anyway, especially with storage. A lot of 3000+ sq ft houses seem to have at least triple garages with lots of storage.
