Nothing to lose there - apart from 6.5k , your insurance policy and having to declare this everytime you take a new insurance policy out.
I bet he wishes he thought of that
Anyhow - thats only if they have a reason to suspect a tax disc wasnt there - alternatively bite the bullet and be honest

If they have asked to see the tax disc they will see the date stamp, thus they will know that the vehicle wasn't taxed at date of crash, therefore they have an excuse not to pay out as the vehicle shouldn't have been on the road in the first place
But i hope for your sake they just see it as an over sight and pay up.

As an Insurance Assessor having dealt with many a claim such as yours, I enjoyed reading this thread to see what the general public's view was on the matter !
And the answer is ...............my biker pal above is spot on !
Any queries about your claim, I'll be happy to help. PM or post.

Around our part of the country (west yorkshire) dvla are out at the beginning of every month ie within the first three days of the month fully backed up with traffic police catching unlicenced vehicles, then if your caught without a valid tax disc they give you three choices, Sign a disclaimer to agree that they can scrap your car, sign a disclaimer to say you will tax your car but the police will still tow it away to a compound till you tax it and you are charged for it towing away and a daily charge for it being in the compound which isn't cheap until you pay for its release, or if your really lucky they will allow you to tax your car there and then. So be warned there is NO such thing as grace days, they havn't spent all that money on hi-tech equipment for the minority to be given grace days.

NO SUCH THING as grace days, its literally just how long it takes the computer to click up your cars untaxed. this can be anything from 2hrs to 2 weeks. Spoke to the Mother in law who has just retired from DVLA after 39 yrs with em.

Ok.. just got off the phone the the DVLA and they said you do have 14days grace. Aslong as you DO NOT drive the vehicle on the road nothing will happen. No fine will be sent aslong as the vehicle is off the road for the 14days.
Glad this clears up the confusion.
Sooo..14 days grace
