It happens on another forum I use. A while ago a lad claimed to have some street racing nova (I know, but still bear with me) with all manner of throttle bodied, 16 valve 'caged goodness. Only to be discovered that he'd taken someone elses car and was attempting to pass it off as his own.

Sadly this happens quite frequently on SNet so at first, being a new member and instantly slating one of the more iconic versions of the Impreza, your going to get abuse. (Because it is assumed you are giving abuse - in a form)

Well thats what I think anyway.
You aint the only one. And as you say, some members can give a group a very very bad name.

Even so, at least it sounds like you at least took the time to explore the lads claims before perhaps calling his bluff!

Names begin with capital letters. Jesting aside lay off the guy, he made one slightly undiplomatic post and is being vilified mercilessly for it. FWIW I think his car is nicely done and will be genuinely quick. It's okay saying Ford owners are 'chavs' blah blah, but certain Impreza owners haven't covered themselves in glory either.

He should have posted in the gallery, shown us some pics, listed the spec and then waited for a response, not posted about how slow P1's are and how great his S1 is, he got what he deserved imo.

PS, many Scoob drivers came from fast Fords originally, a few would probably like to go back to their old Fords, we mostly aren't biased or blinkered on here, any car that can do 0-60 in under 5 seconds whether it P1, RS or Skoda is worthy of some respect.

He dropped in a cosworth engine and even that is modified. We didnt believe an old escort could beat prodrives finest and we told him so in spades. It turns out that the lad can prove what his car can do so we had a go at his spelling for christ sake. We all know that whatever he does to his car that it is possible to modify any impreza to be quicker and better at going around bends. We should have retained our dignity and admitted that his cars performance is impressive but not to our tastes instead of slagging it off

To be fair you created a rod for your own back to an extent. Having said that some of the vitriol slung in your direction was very distasteful and undeserved, and yes some of us Impreza owners can be sensible.

I think we should offer this chap a genuine apology, anyone who spends £15k on a mark 1 escort is obviously mentally unstable and it's not nice to take the p*ss out of mental people.

So from everyone on Scoobynet, we are really sorry for your unfortunate condition.

A Mk. 1 Escort?! I will apologise to the gentleman, for the conduct of certain members(quite apt) on here.

and that has to be the funniest post here

so how would you word this post then?

"i've not blown away a scooby but i have sat on the tail of one til 140 and then it moved over and i went past
all in my sierra estate which isn't cossie powered (well, it wasn't at that time anyhow)"
?

would you classify that as baiting and reply with the nornmal "but it's only a **** box ford, the owner couldn't have been trying etgc etc"
or would you ask "well then mr dojj, you must enlighten us to the form of propulsion your vehcile was using at said time?"

it takes 2 to tango as they say and all it would have required was soeone to ask "what have yo got under the bonnet then?" or ask for pics etc and this whole situation would have been difussed
what you have now is a cross pollenation from here to there and back each justifing themerits of why one car should be held in higher esteem than the other
and, in some cases, people are being thought of as traitors to the cause because they aren't sticking up for the ford side which is a pity as we can all agree that the scooby is at least 15 years more advanced than the escort is
what we should be doing is congratulating the guy who's built the escort because he's put in lots of effort and time and money into making it what he wants it to be, and i think he has deserved his "sccoby slayer" sticker

and yes, i did dust said scooby (amongst other exotica) way back about 5 years ago, but i don't know what it was only that at 140 there were plumes of black smoke coming out of the exhaust

Hold on fella, whilst it may not be a supercar today when it first came out (standard car remember) it was probably pretty good value for money vs the supercars. For those of us who couldn't afford a £250k supercar back then, the P1 was (not is) a ******* good car! I know that I'd rather spend my money on a great standard car than a naff old one & then spend the difference on bigging it up. Hence I'd prefer a standard P1 to a souped up Escort. Each to their own though, eh.

And no I don't own a P1 ... or an Escort.

when this current breed of cars came out of the far east it was shocking to most people
but don't forget that they were making quick cars beforehand too

i still think they were making them in response to fords cossie though so can we chalk up a victory there for the ford boys

Seems to be a theme going on here.....what provokes a SNET member most? Say they are slow etc etc...

What really really really provokes a SNET P1 member, slagging off P1's.....

This troll is good! The thread could now go on for years now we have added some more P1 bashing!

Sorry Lads

Not all Ford owners think a 20 year old middle Market Escort can compare to a P1. RS Turbos dont even have the saving grace of a Cosworth badge. Sure if you fit a big engine in one they may go fairly well. I remember a standard P1 holding a 400bhp Escort Cossie around a circuit, they made a video of it, nowt in it. The Escort would have blasted it in a straight line. The P1 is a great car out of the box.

These RST heros are slating Scoobs over on PF. Its not a problem that they say these things , they are only young lads, but some sound as if they believe it.
Rod

ps. Perhaps you were at fault for actually answering the thread & getting irrate

Thou shalt not blaspheme against the P1.

Behead all Ford owners.
