Fairly rare I'd imagine, but not unheard of.

Someone let you take the car away with a £600 deposit and a personal cheque for the balance? You must have an honest face!!!
Tell your insurance co. they should know from reg. no. and they will be linked to the DVLA so if it is stated "previously used registered overseas" on the log book they will know already and you will look good by telling them, and if they dont know then you would not be properly insured. IMHO.

Thanks for the advice ! yes a very honest face ! and he knows where i live !

it does state used/registered overseas on the log book , however both the first reg date , and uk reg date say 010699 , but the service book shows the car as being purchased in NZ on 310198 , and it didnt come to eng till 99.

ok , im learning lots today ! should have done this before !

what is the impact of running the car on normal unleaded rather than high octane fuel ( except for the drop in performance ) ?

also , any issues with the turbo's themselves , or are they pretty robust ?

As long as you dont rag the car all the time 95 rion petrol shouldnt do too much harm but the higher the better. I generally use esso 97 ron in my uk scoob but have put 95 in when super was unavaiable and had no sleepless nights.
The turbo's seem to be very robust. Afaik the turbo on mine is still the original turbo and has done 110k, and still going strong.
Look after it, dont rag it all the time and it should be fine

and finally , in 2005 the car had the front of the engine ebuilt at an approved subaru garage , due to an incorrectly tightened crank pulley after a prior repair. I have been assured by the garage who did the repair that this would not have caused any other damage - should i trust this . looks like the work done was sound - new pulley / belts / oil seal .....
