Used SHell V-Power for 1st time - Awesome!
I want pslewis to get on the case with this, because I don't have the staying power for the long, drawn-out battle. But it is complete and utter tripe to say that you can subjectively tell the difference between different SUL fuels without a knocklink or similar.

There is a lot more to fuel than octane rating. I like the way my Evo runs on V-power - whether .4 of a RON higher or not. Also worth noting apparently its been at the pumps for about 6 months only still labelled up as Optimax.
As for the higher octane rating, unless your car is mapped for it youre unlikely to see a benefit purely because its 99 not 98 etc. Either way its a quality fuel and the one to use. People who say you definitley wont notice a difference compared to other super unleaded fuels definitley dont know what they are talking about.

What car / year do you drive Bubba?
Im awaiting a response that indicates you have a 'classic' ECU which will not have the ability to 'learn' such small changes in a fuel in a way that you would notice maybe even a small difference (for example a cleaner feeling climb through the rev range)
I have a 2006 MY05 shape STi, which now has 4.5k on the clock... and i stand by the fact that i could tell when our Shell garage changed to v-power (about a week before launch) because after 5(ish) miles the car pulled alot cleaner through from 3k-8k up a fairly long hill at full throttle than it has done before... maybe it had also just 'ran in' at this point... but temps were the same as they had been and the car was very slightly more consistent (and has been since) when pulling under load.
Maybe its like Optimax when this first came out.. 90% of the cars on the road couldnt take advantage of its extra 1RON over standard SUL and wouldnt notice the difference... new cars at that time could. (maybe its the same issue here, even with the older Imprezas / EVO's... only the new ones notice)

Put some in my Merc S500 which usually runs on ord unleaded and it was def quicker. Drove 250 miles to Milton Keynes for the wife to see Robbie Williams then tanked up with normal unleaded coming back. MPG going was 26.4 with heavier traffic and quite a few 'kickdown' moments and high speeds. Coming back it dropped to 26.0 mpg and I was on cruise control most of time. Responsiveness seemed dulled. Def recommended..
Have to say my 98 STi runs noticably smoother on v-power, without any doubt. I always used Tescos 99 before as they are the closest to me, but with v-power the car pulls much, much smoother through the lower revs.
It actually doesn't feel quite as quick as with tesco petrol, maybe thats just not being used to the smoothness, but it certainly feels like a happier car
