Used SHell V-Power for 1st time - Awesome!
 

Wrexhams only Shell Garage has finally took delivery of shell V-POWER :luxhello: , and i filled my scoob up with it on Saturday afternoon and was suprised :eek: to see such a noticiable difference in the way the car drove, it was immediatly more resopnsive, smoother and seemed to accelerate quicker :D .....maybe that was just the smoothness.:confused:

I would recommend this stuff to anyone, as this will be the only juice my scoob will be running on from now on! :thumb:

What made it better was, with the reduction in fuel prices v-power as 95.9p/ltr is actually cheeper than the standard crap ive been putting in my company car for the last year!! Result! :cool:

91.8 in newcastle, its cheaper now than the standard crap local to me

My car's changed since using it. It idles at fewer revs now and picks up better when I floor it.

Well its 101.9 in Surrey at the moment where tesco 99 is at 91.9, now a £5 difference between them when i fill up. i am going back to tesco stuff until shell reduce the price around here

in Scotland (somebody's going to the wrong garages !). Only 0.4 Ron diff !!

Have any of you been monitoring the boost gauges?

If it is a higher octane than the fuel you’ve been using previously, you would be better off to reset the ECU and then run the car. Otherwise the settings will be based on an infinite number of averages based on the lower octane fuel that you were using previously.

The original poster already said he was using crap fuel...more than likely 95ron. The jump to 99ron will be noticable :p

Same here, been using 95 ron for a while in my BeM and when Vpower came out I did notice a fairly big difference. Get more mpg too. 94.1 when I filled up last night.

My thoughts exactly - till we see some A/B comparisons on the RR, it's not possible to say exactly what performance benefits V-Power offers over Optimax :wonder:

i got flames on v power when i put a tank ful in mine - but only on shift from second to third

there's a bike rider with singed eyebrows out there somewhere to prove it coz he was the one who told me - and no i dont have a flamer kit before you ask

I for one don't believe anyone who says there is a difference in performance due to changing to v-power.........Have you lot ever heard the story of the emporers new clothes?

I don't think you can say there won't be a difference without knowing what he was using to start with.

Misty, i can demonstrate it for you quite easily. The more modified the car, the more pronounced the difference. Trust me, i really WISH there wasn't a difference, it would save me a fortune, but fact is, some petrols are chalk and cheese different, measurably. Right now, V-Power is about the best of the bunch.

I never heard of a Scoob managing 94.1mpg. Are you related to PSLewis ? :lol1:

I used optimax in all my performance cars..TVR, Scoobs, Evo's. I now use tesco's 99. Can I feel any difference.........Yes it's a damn sight cheaper. Performance wise...........not a bit..(and you don't have to trust me on that one!

Well ok, i don't think we're at odds then, if it's 99RON i'd expect similar results, but i've not tried Tesco's version i have to say. I'm not a slave to the Shell brand, but their high octane petrols ARE better than most.

Which ones you using then? I know there's quite a few on the A71 out of Edinburger.

I'll have to check again, i'm sure on the sign it was unleaded at 94.9 and on the pump for v-power 104.9. :wonder:

Only bit that worries me about Teso's 99 RON is that it is "spiced up" with bio-ethanol. Someone posted a link to SUbaru Australia's site th eother day with a tech bulletin advising 99/00 STi owners to not use fuels with bio-ethanol (most other years were fine IIRC)! What do I have.... Yup, a 99 STi.

Oh, and the "cock-link" is loads quieter since using v-power (over optimax), I have trouble getting even a flutter from the LED's now :D

Don't believe different brands of petrol make a difference?

Ask one of several highly respected mappers on here what they'd prefer based on their experience of seeing what ECUs are doing with specific fuels out of Optimax and BP ultimate? :D

What I was saying was there isn't much difference between Optimax and V-Power. I do think there's a fair difference between 95 RON and V-Power
(about 10 bhp or more to be precise).

Gaz - Shell Maybury has V-Power. It's advertised at 96.9p/L at the entrance but on the pump the read-out said 94.9p - I checked my receipt and that's what it was ! (95 RON was on the high 80's). Note it's come down a fair bit in the last week or two.

A drop of 5/10 degrees will probably make more difference than a ron or two of petrol. Combine the two however and things will seem better.

We have had v-power down here since a couple of days before launch... and in the same temperatures (19 degrees) my 2006 (Blob) Impreza STi was noticably cleaner feeling at pulling 3rd gear full throttle up hill when using v-power over optimax..

I purposely ran the same hill before i filled then 5 miles to fill up and back for a blast up the hill and it felt like the power was being better sustained (almost like it wasnt dropping off as rapidly).

Its blatent that v-power is better than optimax... if not for just 1RON sake, for the fact that it burns cleaner and appears to be a better mix.

Also noticed better MPG, getting 24MPG now (with occassional full throttle blasts here and there) where as i was only getting 20 or below previously (this might also be due to temperatures being lower now and the fact i now have 4.5k on the clock..)

I havent been on this forum for long (infact only since i got my STi), but one thing i have noticed is how quick some people are to jump on others comments in a negative way. The poster said he notices the difference in his opinion, i notice it in mine... you cant really say someones opinion is wrong just because yours isnt the same. Maybe some people are more sensitive to smaller changes than others..

I reckon I'm getting 37mpg and another 25bhp going from Optimax to
V-Power.

Yep, it's good stuff, my car runs smoother and more boost/power on it.
