OK Guys; CAUTION
I ordered one of the guages referred to by Smithy off e-Bay as already described. Bob'5 then posted a word of warning.
The company in question have not responded to my query regards possible issues or historic issues with their temperature guage and sender.
They have my e-mail address, mobile phone number and home address but still no contact.
In view of this I will not proceed with the purchase and it is only because postal orders for £26.50 were not available to me on Sunday that I did not conclude the transaction.
Bob'5 : Thanks for your timely intervention.

I'm using what looks to be the same probe (bought cheap from the states) - with my current 440bhp (1.5 bar hybrid Garrett), FMIC, auto water spray and water injection (with toluene) I see temps no more than 30-35 deg with amb of 19 to 23 deg approx. Also, temps increase little during idle unlike TMIC. My very low or no boost running norm sees levels below ambi by 1-2 degs.
I had a APS TMIC before which was good upto 300-350 bhp mark, but did suffer when stationary even though I tried wraps for everything and auto water spray with 4 subaru jets - temps were in the 45 deg mark with 1.5/1.6 bar on my previous APS turbo. The bigger TMICs are still loads better than std WRX IC's but means no dancing with your foot from traffic queues.

The best guage I have come across so far for induction temperature measuring just prior to the throttle body is from R&B Motorsport www.randbmotorsport.co.uk As I have already said, these are change out of £50 posted and the information they reveal is very interesting.
Below are photographs of SPA probes which I use regularly for other temperature measuring functions.
K-Box and 3mm probe for EGT measurement.
The thin wire sender, green and white, slips under any rubber or silicone pipe to measure air flow. It can be positioned virtually anywhere you want to investigate temperatures. It can also be used for ambient.
The brass probe couples straight to the SPA wiring loom. This would normally be used for measuring oil, water or fuel temperatures.
Also in the photograph is the pressure sender. All the SPA guages have a double function and this loom is from a boost and temperature guage.
The SPA guages have their own software which you configure for each specific probe. Maximums or minimums can be stored, units changed, low or high pressure warnings, low or high temperature warnings and so on.

I have the SPA gauge set up and was going to use the external trigger at xyz C to trigger the water spray to cool down the TMIC/charge. Due to time restraints we wired it without the external relay and have being monitoring charge temps since.
At cruise I get 1.5 degrees above ambient.
At WOT it will go to around 12 degrees above ambient or slightly higher if low speed WOT runs ie second gear.
When depressing the water spray button, the charge temp will not alter unless on boost obviously but does see it drop, but not by much at all. This was reducing it by at most 1 degree hardly worth the effort really.

I used (and still use) and ebay special which cost me 20 odd quid. Backlit green, reads up to 70 C, supposed to need a 12v supply but actually runs nicely off a 9v battery, and the probe is long enough to go into the engine bay and slips under the IC/throttle body hose because it's flat.

If it's only achieving 1 degree in the summer, I'll empty the IC water bottle to save 5KG weight!
Revive this thread again in the summer and let us know the results.
Cheers

Got a backlit one for sale at the moment - works off a 9v switched battery with a flat probe that fits in the IC hose. reads once a second and goes up to 70 degrees C.
