Basic Turbo or VR6
7 or so years ago,I was faced with the same decision
At that time I had G60 Corrado and test drove a VR6 Golf before opting for a 96 UK Impreza, which to be honest wasn't all that much quicker or fun to drive.
If it were me I'd try and find a decent VR6 Corrado,if theres any left?

Corrado has 190bhp, 0-60 in 6.8, 0-100 in 18.09
Turbo 2000 has 215bhp, 0-60 in 5.6 and 0-100 in 15.87
A nice appreciable difference especially as the scoob is cheaper to insure (yes I had a corrado VR6) and much easier to modify....my turbo 2000 gets to 100 in just under 10secs with bolt on mods. Depends what exactly you are looking for in a car as they are like chalk and cheese really!

The Corrado 0-100 is 15.9, not 18.09. 60 in 6.2 check evo. The Corrado only has minimal drivetrain losses whereas the turbo has 4wd losses.
had a vr6 golf and a corrado(16v 2.0) many years ago,not to metion a rather nice 16v golf but i can say none come close speed wise to a scoob.now....if i had around 5 g's to spend you could'nt go far wrong with a vr6 corrado,if you could find a good one.yes, not as fast as a scoob but it will never lose money(One thing an impreza's very good at)turn heads and still go fairly quick also should be just as reliable as a 5 grand subaru

This has the TD05 turbo as standard so is quite capable of running some respectable figures without too much bother. Mods include decat downpipe and system, Walbro pump, fse reg (slightly raised pressure), FMIC, Apexi induction kit, Apexi PFC mapped by Andy F and running 1.4bar. FYI, you'd only need approx 335BHP to crack 100 in under 10secs in a classic scoob.
