Yep, Labradors do have a tendency as well, quite well documented, just dont get something you cant handle, I think we are safe from are blind and deaf 13 year old Cocker Spaniel, though the smell is as much of an assault to the nose as a Pit Bull to the leg !

 

To see how the American Pitbull breed has degenerated in the USA you should watch a film called 'Off the Chain.'
As a dog lover I found it VERY harsh viewing but also interesting to hear the story from both sides.

 

I doubt that it is in fact a pit bull as they are banned and most times it is a "Pitbull Type" which is used to describe almost any cross breed that has bitten. The Police find it easier to prosecute if it is described as a pitbull type even if it looks like a Lab. If you want further Proof look at Dr Roger Mugfords pictures of dogs Destroyed under the DDA as Pitbull types.

Yes I humanise it to make the point that people expect a high level of restraint of a dog than they do of humans which obviously is unrealistic.

No I am not saying this child should have been attacked but as neither of us knows the full facts you can’t say why it was attacked. But the point I made about there being a reason is still true. Dogs don’t attack without a reason even if you can’t be bothered to find the reason.

Yes the picture of the person bitten was shocking. Still doesn’t explain what happened? Pictures nether tell a whole story do they! But they are good to shock.

Yes I do think the child was lucky not to be bitten at the dog show, it wasn’t bitten because the dog was better behaved than the humans, the father as I said watched this unfolding and didn’t stop his child then when the danger was explained rather than learn a useful lesson he got aggressive? if a women walked up to me in the street muttering in a strange language waving a big stick up and down expecting me to just stay there when she is in my face and not react is unrealistic how do I know she isn’t going to hit me again? Why would you expect a dog not to think that as most people think hitting a dog is a good way to train it.

I meet loads of children when out who think they can just rush up to dogs waving hands etc up and down and touch them as they want with out asking if it is safe first this isn’t their fault it is the fault of the parents who don’t take responsibility for their children’s behaviour a bit like not teaching children to look before crossing a road and then complaining when run over.

As you said yourself these bites are probably the result of the dog feeling threatened by the person and defending its self in the only way it can. It can’t of course ask nicely if they would stop doing what ever the threatening action is can they.

Of course dog owners are responsible for their dogs in the same way parents are for their children they have to teach them the correct way to behave but also a lot of people want the dog to protect them their house and possibly their Scooby so it can be very difficult for the dog to work out who is friend and who is the person car jacking their owner on the door step for the cars keys!

Forgot to add that small dogs are more likely to bite than big dogs, if you ask Vets which are the problem for bitting it is always the small dogs.

 

Thats very true. Some pedigrees also look very similar to pitbulls like irish stafordshire bulls and scotts breed american bulldogs etc. I have an scotts breed american bulldog and about 2 years ago i had the police at my door as someone had reported me as having an illegal dog (pitbull). Had i not had all his papers to say otherwise i think he would of been taken and destroyed.

 

Some kids dont have fear and will walk up to a dog and stroke it more fool them really im nearly 20 and i even still ask if a dog bites before i touch it! I dont wanna get bitten thanks i only have to look at my mates face as a reminder of what could happen.

Bit like wearing a seat belt or not wearing a seat belt and hoping you dont crash, but they do save lives

Dogs are animals, all of which are unpredictable! there are many stories of 'pets' that have been owned for years and then all of a sudden they have flipped and bitten or attacked its owner/ another person! These things happen, they are not nice but just a fact of life!

 

There's a bloke near me who walks 2 huge "pit bull looking" dogs *always* on a lead and *always* with muzzles.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I was slightly scared when I saw him walking towards me with these two bruisers but when I saw their tails waggling I asked him what breed they were. He said they were "presa de canario" and that they were guard dogs for his home.
He said he could never ever let them off in public and if they ever met a dog who showed aggression they would rip them to shreds.
What type of person would buy a dog that you can't walk off the lead?

Do a Google image search for "presa de canario" and you'll see why I shat myself.

ps- these dogs are legal to buy in the UK..

A magnificent animal indeed, and notice the attitude of the owner! ... totally aware of what they are and what they do ... no daft defensive statements saying how they read the kids stories at night, are all doe-eyed and wubbly and are simply misunderstood ... he knows exactly what they are and what they will do ... a refreshing attitude at least!

Personally i think they clip them so they look 'hard' as they is a minority of arseholes who do breed or own this type of dog for image. They dont quite give the same impression with big floppy ears
